Miley's quality on the ball combined with his stature at 18 gives him a pretty good chance of succeeding in the league like.

Archie Gray went for 40m and I've yet to see anything to suggest Miley hasn't got more potential.

Hey , nothing wrong with us all having different opinions

I am not having a go at anyone else for saying they think he will succeed at Newcastle

I just don’t see it happening (top level) and being a regular.

He’s young - Let’s see how it pans out.

He has a great attitude and has my backing as he gives it his all.

Miley doesn’t count towards that due to his age. He goes on List B (the junior list), not List A.

I was talking about Longstaff not Miley.

My point is we need to register 4 over-21 home grown players for Europe and because we don't have 5 now we would be silly to let one go. We'll have empty seats on the bench. We'll be signing new first team players who we can't even register.

Didn’t Bruno say Miley is twice the player he was at that age. I think he will be good enough, as with anything the problem is going to be getting a proper run in the team going forward as our midfield is stacked with quality at the moment.

Let’s see who is proved right (long term)

Bookmarked for when he plays 200 games for Watford

Hope he proves me wrong as he has a great attitude and can strike a lovely ball.

I just don’t think he has (IT) , the x Factor , that change of pace , the bite , that killer instinct

All about opinions.

Hes light years away from Tonali and Bruno (I know there is a huge difference in age)

However I think in the long run , he won’t reach the heights at Newcastle

If he does - ‘Great’ as I love Newcastle United Football Club and that means the team/club will benefit.

Shh … you’re not allowed to think this.  He’s a Gerrard regen.

Personally I think that the lad has talent, but how far he’ll go is very much open to debate.  I’m not at all convinced by those arguing that he’ll be pushing for the first team shortly - he still looks very raw to me and a long way short of that.  I also think that there is every chance he ends up as a decent lower half / second tier type midfielder.  Time will tell.

That’s the captain pumping up a young player tbf

It wouldn’t be the new the players that wouldn’t be getting registered though would it? It would be someone like a Lascelles or Targett (if still here). Not ideal, but hardly the end of the world.

We’d go into the CL with a 21 man A List squad (assuming Longstaff leaves), supplemented by a B List with at least two bona-fide first 11 options in Miley and Hall, plus any other youngsters that develop enough to be around the squad.

I suppose what I’m saying is, the inconvenience selling Longstaff would cause to our CL squad numbers, is nowhere near significant enough to turn down what we deem an acceptable offer for him (again, assuming we want to sell).

I dunno like, Bruno would have been in the 4th tier of Brazilian football when he was 17/18.

Yeah, true enough.

I think the lad might well make it - but then, he might well not.  He’s talented but I’m not seeing ‘generational talent’ at the moment - I get why folks get excited by young’uns coming through but I’d rather just see what happens as the lad develops and not pin too much on him.  And tbf Johnny B’s crusty gym sock is more liable than anyone else on here to have insight on young players coming through at NUFC, having done so himself.

Don’t confuse X Factor with pace.

That's a fair point

I'm intrigued though, what x factor do Hinshelwood and Lewis Cook have?

Nick Pope - still our best keeper but..

Martin Dúbravka - he’ll leave despite contract.

Odysseas Vlachodimos - will be sold.

Mark Gillespie - backup to the backup.

John Ruddy - basically a coach?

Kieran Trippier - 1 more season!

Sven Botman - best defender we have

Fabian Schär - exceeding expectations always. Very important still.

Dan Burn - see above.

Jamaal Lascelles - time to move on.

Emil Krafth - basically the only backup for Schär. Reliable. Needs to stay.

Valentino Livramento - better at LB than Hall.

Lewis Hall - talented and not the finished article yet.

Matt Targett - time to move on.

Alex Murphy - not seen enough to think he’s going to make it. Loan would do him good.

Bruno Guimarães - lack of pace his only chink in the armour. Superstar and needs to stay.

Joelinton - been brilliant of late. Has to stay.

Sandro Tonali - Keep at all costs.

Sean Longstaff - can be useful.. but if 1 had to go it would be him.

Joe Willock - hopefully injury issues behind him but jury still out.

Lewis Miley - he needs to play more. Loan?

Anthony Gordon - anything around 80-100m would take.

Harvey Barnes - better than Gordon.

Jacob Murphy - Deserves his place on merit. The soul of the squad.

Alexander Isak - keep at all costs.

Callum Wilson - time to move on

William Osula - lunatic. Potential. Keep.

So basically the only ones that should even be considered to leave would be

Dubs - new contract, small fee? 2m

Odysseus - shady Saudi deal

Lascelles - owes us nothing.

Targett - 3-5m

A. Murphy - loan

Longstaff - sell for 15-20m

Miley - don’t sell if Longstaff leaves. Loan be good.

Gordon - sell reluctantly. He’d cost a bomb

Every player on this forum has to go through waves of this selling hypothetical shit so good to see Miley's getting his in now.

If you can't get excited and hopeful for the future by someone coming through our academy and playing meaningful first team minutes at 17 in the Premier and Champions League, while clearly performing to a standard above and beyond his years, I don't know what to tell you.

Outside of generational talents, actual ones not the Sunderland brand ones, like Yamal, Messi, Rooney...players rarely show more than what Miley already has at his age. Major potential, whether he reaches it is an open question sure, but he absolutely has and will get that chance under Howe, not pissing about on loan when we're fighting on four fronts next season or being sold for PSR gains.

I was just listing a few players that I think are better (opinion based)

I could of listed 10/15 more

my point was , I think the drop off from Tonali , Bruno and Joelinton is massive and I think we need to sign at least 1 midfielder to fill that void.

As it stands I don’t think the ones we have are good enough to come in and not see a big drop off.

i know it’s hard to find players that are willing to sit on the bench, but I hope we can find someone that can come in and really effect/help the midfield if we get an injury to either / any of the 3 above

Gibbs white would be another ,Mateus Fernandes at Southampton ,  Jacob Ramsey at villa , McGinn at villa as an experienced pro , Even a player like Tom Cairney at Fulham would be a better alternative!

At least 1 midfielder from every premier league team would be a better alternative, hence why I don’t see the generational hype.

I don’t think the lad should be considered for sale at all, PSR or not

I’d just rather that our support doesn’t expect or demand too much from the lad, let him develop, and let’s see how he goes.  The excitement around him is the flip of what usually happens - our own end up being criticised hardest of all, when they don’t produce what people have told themselves they will

It already feels like he could stick around as a squad player (at the very least) for long time, given his 'neat and tidy' style of play. He does need to add something to his game, but this is something Eddie has alluded to previously when talking about him either being a more attacking or more defensive midfielder. The kid is 18, anything could happen over the next 3/4 years.

Yeah, that’s an interesting idea tbf.  I’d just like to see the lad given the next couple of years pressure-free from the support.  We should be looking to strengthen in CM, not relying on Miley just yet.

Yep - he’s so young that it isn’t even clear what his position will end up being.  He might bulk out a lot in the next couple of years.  He’s got the right coaching team around him to help him develop

You're comparing an 18 year old kid coming off the back of a pretty serious injury to a very experienced professional with 5 and a half seasons in the PL under his belt...
