As someone above has mentioned Derby in 92, I was at the same fixture early on the next season, saw next to nothing (put in a paddock by then) and loved every bit of it.  Fans since cant understand that because its completely changed, was never really about the entertainment as a spectacle but the occasion.

A bit of the hairyness and rivallry going probably hasn't helped, felt like total enemies and personal for 90minutes, even somewhere like Derby or at home to Wolves, feels more like bants since.

Was at that same Derby game as well, played brilliant, stuck in that paddock on the side but great atmosphere. They were promotion favorites but were absolute pony.

I think we have a fairly good song book but we only a very small minority of songs are sung, I think this is where more standing ends around the ground would improve.

Look back to level 7 and you'd regularly hear "they call us Newcastle united" "if you want to go heaven when you die" who's that team you call united with first verse. The full Blaydon races in sync. "We've travelled far and wide*

E-tickets a huge cause of this, for my tuppence.

Probably, but given the technology seemingly widely available, it shouldn’t really be so piss easy to pass a ticket on. Just forwarding the email being the ‘workaround’ is ridiculous.

To me the happy medium is every ST holder and Member should have a Card that games get pre-loaded on to as the season progresses.

Get rid the need for phones and wallets and email forwarding.

I heard this from my left and assumed it was a witty retort from their fans after us singing about empty seats. Couldn't believe my fucking eyes when I turned and saw it was our fans actually singing it. The lowest point of a particularly grim afternoon.

The exact thoughts I had! It Gave me a wry smile when I thought their fans were singing to us. As if they care when they're 2/3/4 - 0 up!

The whole 'empty seats' and 'where were you...' are awful crack and always have been. It's proper EFL stuff, as is EIEIEIO. We'll be shouting 'you sh*t bastard' at the opposition GK next!

That being said, I commend the lad behind me who didn't stop with 'One Club, made out of two clubs' for the entire second half.

Would love to hear the "Howay the Lads" chant again in the upcoming cup games.

The slow version and constant faster Howay The Lads are very effective and not sang near enough.

I always think there’s no better defiant song then ‘We’ll support you ever more, we’ll support you evermore, Newcastle, Newcastle’.

Instead of waving the flags at Wembley like mutes against Man U in the closing stages like a non league set of fans would do, the above song reverberating around Wembley would get the hairs standing up and I’d have actually left Wembley proud.

We were never a fan base who just sang when we are winning, get behind the lads win, or lose especially on the national stage at Wembley.

So underused howay the lads...should be a no brainer to belt that out at Wembley.

Tell you what was a catchy number that you could sing for ages - the Andy Cole song.  After a few verses was like it was automatic, even if you stopped singing to talk to someone the hands kept clapping to that beat and you rejoined.

Been posted on here before, but Burnley in semi and when Hughes goes up to lift Cup for Liverpool are what this clubs support should be all about.

Great clips that bring back the memories of being a young teenager travelling the country in the mid/late 80s.

It’s a bit cringe that we used to occasionally sing YNWA though. The only time I ever experienced it was the last day of the season in 89 at Old Trafford when we had already been relegated. We sang it that day to annoy the Man Utd fans as there was loads of back and forth between us in the paddock and them sat in the seats above us. To say it got heated between us and them that day is an understatement.

Also only experienced that against Man United, but a few years later (actually our next time there). Didn't we sing it to a different pace with claps and pauses?

One of my worst memories of our fans is some singing it at home to Man United in 97/98 and, fair play, their fans chanting back "who the f*ck do you support?"

Remember. It’s who’s in the stadium what makes the atmosphere…

Always thought the "Whey ya kna whey ya kna" was a goodun to keep the away end bouncing. Think it was Huddersfield we sang it for about 20 mins.

Another good local one and not the generic shite like Bruno in the middle.
