Cash up front plus quansah was a rumour a few weeks back?

Didn't see it and don't know much about Quansah but he's English and Transfer Market has him worth 22m, not that this fact means fuck all.

Worth bearing in mind that football has eaten itself up.

There's been a couple of decades of unabashed greed. Unlimited funds flowing down the food chain.

And Lo, greed invented agents. Management teams etc etc.

Now these corrupt cunts that allowed that have panicked to stop any competition. The cash flows dried right up.

Clubs aren't buying. Agents aren't getting their percentages

There'll be a hell of a lot of shit stirring by agents.

Would be gutted if he goes and hope it doesnt happen, wouldn't leave us with much to spend (Cost 40, So maybe 50 million for PSR next 3 years).

If his head is turned though, very difficult to keep him. He's got such a high level and developed so much under Howe that I hope he wants that more.

Just been catching up on the earlier excitement about Guler.

Reminded me of the link to Brahim Diaz in the lead up to the January window.

https://www.defensacentral.com/real_madrid/1703754751-el-newcastle-le-ofrece-un-dineral-a-florentino-por-brahim-precio-de-crack

I wonder if we might actually be showing an interest in him again too. He had a really good season just past.

They were saying we were willing to go up to around £55 million in January.

Between Diaz and Guler, one of them is not going to play enough next season, and if we like both, perhaps we are interested in whoever Real Madrid decide is available between the two.

Romano doesn't say anything there but maybe we'll have to offer Anthony a new contract soon if we want to be in a good position for negotiations in future windows. Think he was signed on an unusually short deal.

Club described it as a “long-term deal”

.com has it down as tbc so even they don’t know.

You only sell crown jewel players when you have to - basically when the player says I want to go and won’t stay as they are incredibly difficult to replace. Isak and Bruno etc might go at some point but the aim is to delay that moment

Being better sellers is about moving on players once the best years are done or if they are not integral to the team. It’s not about flogging the best players at the first sign of cash

I disagree. A player past their best and no longer integral to the team is past their peak value. If we are to compete, and as long as we remain severely hampered by lacking the commercial revenue to do so and have no manufacturing line of saleable talent from our academy, we have to trade players well as explained by Eales in January. This means sometimes take a step backwards in terms of quality on the pitch short term to allow for two steps forward a little further down the line. Star players may get badly injured and never recover, they may dip in form or they may refuse to extend their contract and for all those reasons their value may diminish. We should try to optimise every player sale, just like we try to optimise every player purchase.

And that’s why Joelinton should be sold in January

I don't think we would get enough for Joelinton to replace what he brings to the team, £40m max and I have no idea who would even do that.

It's different with Bruno and Isak, there aren't many clubs in the world who wouldn't like to have them and the money we would get would be so much higher. It fucking sucks but we have to be able to sell players at the right time and Bruno turns 27 soon, pretty much the last age where we could get maximum money for him. Isak being two years younger means he's more likely to leave because he's a top 3 striker in the world than us being forced to sell due to his age. And I'm in no way advocating that we should sell them, just getting personally ready for it when PSR and FFP are still a thing.

Yea I kinda agree, we are probably too late to sell Joelinton already. Should have done it last summer.

If this isn’t bollocks, then perhaps all of the talk of the Anderson and Minteh funds being absorbed into PSR deficit, was bollocks, i.e. a top class deflection re the size of our war chest.

100% agree.  Brahmin and Guler are too similar a profile. One of them will have to leave most likely - if not now in January. Unless Rodrygo is sold.

PSR is that complicated that we can be in a position where we had to sell Minteh and Anderson to plug the financial hole, then when we move in to a new PSR window it opens up our spending ability again.

Agreed.

Last Jan - I think would’ve been a decent idea.

Since he’s signed the contract extension I think we’ve missed the prime window to sell him now he’s on big boy wages.

—-

Guler - I don’t see us signing him permanently now. A bigger team will come and get him. I don’t assume he’s for sale either tbh.

Edit: Madrid are fond of the buy back tbf. So maybe a glorified loan.

I don’t agree. We carry most of our costs forward season on season and our revenues haven’t increased in line.

£60m for Guler would be a ‘sign now, worry later’ type deal anyway.  The opportunity is too big. We’ll have 10 months to sort the finances out

Only a couple of weeks till the season starts, I'm sure Howe would like to work with new signings before putting them in the first team, Gordon is one of our best players and it took him ages to get used to our tactics.

Get your finger out Mitchell.

We couldn’t sell him in January, he tore his thigh at the beginning of it.

Could you please explain how you are calculating that?I am having a bit of difficulty understanding.

Perhaps read this post by timeEd32, then read TCD’s post again. Long story short, we can’t afford 60m Guler without sorting the financial deficit it would create further down the line later this season, before the 2025 PSR deadline.

From the Athletic - another Keeper?! I'm certain Dubs will go but we still have four if he does go!

What positions/players are they looking at?

A centre-back and a right-winger are Howe’s priorities while recruiting another goalkeeper is under consideration. Callum Wilson’s back injury increases the need for another forward, given Alexander Isak is the only fit front man — though any striker being brought in may first depend on the England international leaving.

Howe, Mitchell and Eales are unified in their desire to prioritise quality over quantity, with most additions intended to improve the first XI.

Newcastle want a right-sided centre-back and Milan’s Thiaw, a 22-year-old Germany international, and Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo are among those tracked.

Howe has been keen to bolster Newcastle’s right wing for several windows, with a significant portion of their budget expected to be spent on that position. Having missed out on top target Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, despite meeting his Crystal Palace release clause, Newcastle retain an interest in Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga, while Noni Madueke of Chelsea has been discussed and Fiorentina’s Gonzalez has been watched.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin had been a striker target but, after a deal with Everton collapsed last month, Newcastle turned their attention to others. Lille’s Jonathan David has been watched for a long time.

Which players could be leaving?

Despite managing to comply with PSR by June 30, Mitchell is still looking to reduce their wage bill and the average age of their squad, so further senior players are expected to depart.

Kieran Trippier, who is into the final year of his contract, has fielded interest from the Saudi Pro League but no firm offer has arrived. The 33-year-old was photographed at Newcastle Airport on Friday, fuelling rumours of an imminent exit, but he was heading away to Dubai as he has been afforded an extended break after reaching the Euro 2024 final with England. Trippier posted a photo on Instagram over the weekend alongside Tom Spring, Al Ettifaq’s chief scout, with the caption “good meeting”, which has sparked further speculation.

Miguel Almiron and Martin Dubravka have rejoined the squad, but both can leave for the right price, while Emil Krafth is into the final year of his deal and an exit has been explored. Wilson’s injury complicates any potential exit, but the 32-year-old has less than 12 months remaining on his contract.

Newcastle hope to offload Jamal Lewis and Ryan Fraser, with the latter having agreed a deal with Southampton, though the details must be finalised with his club. While Lewis played in Newcastle’s friendlies against SpVgg Unterhaching and Hull City, Fraser remains banished from first-team training and Southampton manager Russell Martin has indicated that the deal needs to progress soon, otherwise they will move on to other targets. Isaac Hayden is also available for transfer.

Bruno Guimaraes’ £100million release clause expired in June and Newcastle are keen to keep hold of the Brazil midfielder, although Manchester City have tracked him, while they have no intention of selling Alexander Isak.

Howe is hopeful Anthony Gordon will stay, despite internal fears that his head was turned by an awareness of Liverpool’s interest.
