Sibierski
Barnes must harbour England aspirations, especially since the household names of Grealish/Rashford are not sure things on LW, and he must back himself over Gordon/Eze. So being rotational option and likely not playing the big games, won’t help towards that. If he’s resigned to not playing for England again, then yea, he’s probably happy as the rotational option for a club that should be competing top end and in Europe next couple of seasons. Think he can play for Scotland too, so if he has tournament ambitions only, that may be the route he takes.
Sibierski
Also for Barnes, I do feel Howe likes the LW to be able to come inside and take ball for possession. Willock/Joe are superb at it due to being naturals centrally and Gordon is very good at ball retention. Barnes, you don’t see as coming inside to take ball in CM positions, it’s always going to be high and wide, where if you’ve got the RW doing same, it creates gap? TRon
3 hours ago, WilliamPS said: Barnes is a great asset for the team, but yes increasingly difficult to justify having 3 options at LW and none at RW. It’s a bit of a depressing sign of how FFP constricts everything if he goes, as Chelsea have about 12 RWs and NUFC can’t afford to have a single spot on the team with genuine top level competition Howe seems to have gone totally off Miggy so he’s a goner. I think people need to set reasonable expectations for January. It’s a better time to buy potential (as those players are less likely to be integral parts of competitive teams). There are exceptions, but I’m not sure if a RW of sufficient quality will be available He'll be a depreciating asset, that should be pointed out. He's 26 so we'd have to sell him in the next year or so to get our money back. That's the hard-nosed view on it. Of course if you aren't bothered about resale value, then 26 is hardly old, he'd still be good for the rest of his contract. But until we start blowing off PSR, it has to be taken into consideration. He doesn't seem unprofessional in the slightest, but that doesn't mean a player can't feel dejected. It still means there are a couple of problems to solve, as @TRon indicates above, but if he's happy enough it'll take a big issue off the table. If it wasn't for PSR we wouldn't even need to think about resale value. Chelsea can look at putting out three teams the equivalent of ours, yet when we want to rotate quality players we are left having to calculate how much money we are going to lose year on year if we don't sell in time. It's disgraceful, but that is the way the PSR rules have been designed.

Guess different for different games? We can’t rely on Joelinton left forward for many games. Hasn’t got the creativity.

Its the same story everytime someone has a good game. If Murphy does something good we are in no need. Its not long a go Barnes left and Gordon right was the answer. Not long before that it was Barnes right and Gordon left that was the answer. We need a bloody RW Christ. This never ending discussion we need/we need not a RW is quite something.. I think we'll see more from him in that regard as we face other teams where we have more of the ball. At the back end of the season we qualified for the Champions League he played a lot on the left and he ended up scoring 6 goals and assisting 2 from that position in 15 appearances there in the Premier League. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joelinton/leistungsdaten/spieler/333241/plus/0?saison=2022 Not to mention he also allows Hall to be more of a threat getting forward, and also has a similar effect on Willock. Both of whom will also impact our possession, chance creation and goal scoring.
