The Prophet
Ability wise, I have no issue with DCL, especially given Eddie gets an extra 20% out of everyone. But we've seen the issues of relying on a back-up with an unreliable fitness record, particularly with Isak not being the most robust himself. It feels like a risk rolling that dice again. The Butcher
I'd trust Nickson/Mitchell finding a gem or two in a different league over spending 100m on Mbeumo and Huijsen tbh. Our success rate on transfer since the takeover is pretty mad. I'd trust Nickson to find us more class signings. Add Mitchell to the mix and I can't see owt but success. Shearergol
I wonder if our link to Retegui is actually true or just agent talk. Don't think I've ever seen him as anything other than a striker, and doubt he'd come here to sit on the bench. Shame though as he's a tidy player. It was a valid question that deserves an answer. You guys are always happy to selectively laud Howe's coaching when linked to certain dross. Getting giddy for a injury proned guy who's averaged 1 goal in 5 over his last 4 seasons striker is silly even if he's on a 'free'. Let's aspire beyond mediocrity

AJ9
With the caveat that it would have to be no fee and not crazy wages I would certainly be ok with DCL…if it allows us to strengthen elsewhere significantly

Let's aspire beyond mediocrity Simples, play him every fifth game, give Isak a rest and he scores every game he plays, can't say fairer than that!. He isn't the most exciting player we are linked with but could do a job and flesh out a paper thing squad, and we could probably flip him in a year to West Ham etc

Holmesy
We've just won our first domestic trophy for generations, we could well be playing in the CL and we have the best midfield in the league. DCL should be absolutely nowhere near our list of targets, PSR or no PSR. He would be the most underwhelming signing we could make.

These sentiments here are why I'm super chilled about who we sign. We've basically never had a Newcastle regime with this much credit in the bank, and our transfer misses have been minimal. I'd prefer not to sign DCL either although I did like him (many) years ago when he was putting in good numbers for Ancelotti. The backup forward slot is hard to fill for any club because anyone anywhere near Isak's level will not settle for loads of time on the bench. All signs are we'll need to be quite creative with our spend this summer and CB, RW, GK are where the big money needs to go imo, probably followed by a midfielder and a striker for not much.
