Because he’s a competent back-up option. Other than clubs who have players who can play multiple positions, I struggle to think of a PL club that has a back-up striker significantly better than him?

 

Off the top my head, that Muniz(?) at Fulham looks canny, but can’t think of many others.

Apart from the more obvious reasons, what I really. Like with Mbeumo is that he’s reliable fitness wise and is able to play tons of games without niggles here and there. It’s the same with Bruno and Tonali to name two.

 

I know he had his ankle injury a while back but I’m general he’s very reliable in this department. Injuries can always happen, just that some seem to picking em up frequently here and there for basically nothing. 
 

Even if Joelinton stays fit next season it’s imperative that we get another CM to be able to rotate as well as competition for places. I hope I’m wrong but I can see Joelinton struggling even more with fitness in the next couple of years. 
 

It’s one of the reasons that I don’t want DCL. Plus that I don’t rate him and he would cost a lot in wages on top of that.

I'd say it's a bit more than likely to be fair. There's a very decent chance.

Aye but absolutely not a certainty. Part of me thinks we’ll beat Arsenal but can absolutely see a scenario where we only take a point or less.

Yeah, that's fair. I have no idea how that game will go, thankfully we have another opportunity to do the job at SJP next week.

 

If we tried to be as objective as possible and said Team X are 3rd in the league, with the second most wins and are in decent form. If all other results go against them, they still only need three points away to 2nd or at home to 14th to secure their objective, we'd fancy them.

 

Like you say, it isn't a certainty, buy there's a very good chance.

There's no evidence at all that he's competent at all....he's barely scored for the last couple of seasons and has a reputation for being injured most of the time. Would rather have Osula as backup given that's what he was bought for in the first place....

Maybe DCL of 4 years ago, when we thought he might turn out to be a very good player, he hasn't had a clean run of games or looked good in years. Crazy to sign injury prone players, the more you get those types of injuries the more likely you suffer them with greater frequency and easier in future. We've had enough write offs, Willock had a warning sign on him, 2 serious knee and thigh issues before we signed him.Not only did Willock not improve, he's significantly worse as a player, it'd take a lot of luck to ever reach the levels he showed before even.

Calvert Lewin & Vardy suggestions are terrible. Ashley-esque signings.

 

We've reportedly got a significant recruitment budget this summer and we need to press on, not lumber ourselves with over the hill players on massive wages.

if we bring DCL in (which I think we will) it’ll be well thought out , our recruitment is pretty much flawless.

Until his current injury he’d barely missed a match for two seasons. Isak missed significantly more matches in that period, but no-one wants to label him a ‘crock’.

 

I agree his goalscoring record has been poor in recent seasons (although who he’s been playing for hasn’t helped…) but he wouldn’t be getting brought in to get us 15-20 a season. He’d be someone capable of scoring, but more importantly  (IMO), someone that can give us a different focal point to Isak, should we be chasing, or give us an ‘out’ to get up the pitch, should we be protecting.

 

Anyway, all moot unless he actually signs…

I’m not massively sold on DCL, however I’d rather be bringing him off the bench or starting in cup games over this seasons Wilson and Osula. We aren’t signing a top class striker to sit on the bench, DCL may be the best option for us.

Nice to have a target man upfront to launch it to when we’re under the cosh late in games too.
