Pope (if a new keeper came in?)

 

I think with CL we’ll go pretty big cash wise on CB and RW and then it’ll be interesting to see what we do to cover the other areas and build the squad depth. Delap for 30m would be a fantastic signing.

Nobody is saying Mbuemo is bad or anything like that, but he's probably at his peak and your paying a premium. 

 

We need players with room to grow and whom aren't at the peak.

I reckon Wilson and Longstaff. U doubt Eddie will want too much player turnover.

Trippier is an interesting one because he seemed nailed on to go and now I could potentially see him staying for his experience. On balance I think he still goes.

He's got another year if I'm not mistaken and I doubt we let him walk for free.

I was joking really but at the same time if someone came in with a massive bid with his stock relatively high currently etc. He’s captain though  so highly unlikely.

Just cannot see Delap coming here at all. I know he would get plenty of playing time, but regardless he would be coming to be second choice.

I probably agree. Has he done enough so far to prove he’s a nailed on starter for a top six club though? I know he’s a great talent etc. As rocafella says it would make great sense for him to come here but someone will wave a massive contract at him and he’ll go

somewhere to start as you say. His agent has ££££ signs in his eyes at the moment.

I find this kind of comment really strange. This idea that guys develop till 25/26 and then that’s it! How’s about that Jacob Murphy for one? Of course he can get better under Howe, he’ll be playing with better players.

Mbuemo is 26, not 30. He has room to grow in our team. 

 

He has atleast 4 more seasons at the top if his game.

26 is peak for that position. 

 

He wouldn't be a "bad" signing im certain of that, but as I mentioned I'd prefer a more strategic approach. 

 

I wouldn't sign anyone who wouldn't appreciate it value at this stage.

Agree with you both. Yes players can improve beyond 25/26 but i wouldn’t say massively. Which is why the fee is so high surely as we are paying for almost the finished article. He’s already playing full of confidence with well coached players being coached well currently. Murphy wasn’t but is now. If Howe had crossed paths with Murphy earlier in his career he’d be where he is at now 25/26. Doesn’t mean there is then a further level jump now in his 30’s.

 

Not saying for the clubs with bigger revenue but for us paying £60m it’s for almost the finished article needing some refinement. That’s why i think there (must be?) smarter buys out there a lot cheaper.

Good point. I do wonder if the keep plowing money in to that exhibition league after Ronaldo calls it a day. 

 

Players like Duran don't bring you any eyeballs despite the vast sums spent.
