NUFC Transfer Rumours

“Speed is key for us and I have reiterated that many times internally. Speed is key because we have to be dynamic, we have to be ready to conclude things very quickly because good players don’t hang around for long.

“That’s always been my thought and my message on recruitment, because you can have a period when you think you have time – but then you look around quickly and you see that time has elapsed and you missed opportunities you won’t get again.

“That’s what we will be trying, but the reality of that is it’s not always in your hands – but we will do our best to do things early”

If Eddie now has the transfer reigns and this is his attitude, maybe he has some juicy signings up his sleeve.

Exactly why a young dynamic Kluivert with 12 goals and 4 assists would be a cheaper option. Destroyed us at SJP

Incredible.

Is it not more incredible to think we had money but could not find anyone good enough for the team for two years and then all of a sudden find four players in one window which is what most people, myself included, are expecting this window?

Old, expensive and contracted until 2030, ticks those boxes?

Top class. 22 goals and assists in 30 appearances in an awful team. Fit as a fiddle works his socks off. British. The position we need the most.  Aye them boxes

Agree with the sentiment, but I often feel that our transfer approach doesn’t necessarily follow priority in terms of position. We are very opportunistic and I think if the right deal for the right keeper is there then it’ll happen regardless of if it’s first or last.

Agree 100% on that. I think in our position it's the only way we get our first choices with the cartel clubs hovering, so it makes sense to do the deals if and when you get the chance.

We should go for prime aged players of the fee is very reasonable like Maignan(sp?), Pope, Burn.

But if we sign players 28+ it can’t be for the £60m+ it would cost to get Bowen. Especially not the type of player that would reject a move to Saudi in a couple years for the same money.

26 or under or a relative bargain or someone that will definitely go to Saudi when asked.

Why wouldn't we just say we had no money though? We've done it since.

Have we? It feels like it's been summer 2024 we tried for Guehi, January windows (2024 & 2025) that there is better value in the summer window.

This is not me criticising the club, but taking a step back it feels obvious that we had no money, a good few sales and only Hall and Osula added to the squad in two years.

I could see Bowen coming here only if he wanted a taste of CL football. Otherwise he has no incentive to leave WH.

Wouldn’t pay more than £30m or so for him, mind.

So when Parish was coming out on TalkSport and wherever else, grandstanding about how much we were going to have to up our bid, that was what? All made up? Done as a favour to us, so we could look like we were attempting to buy someone, when we actually weren’t?

Since when was 28 old. Every player who moves usually has a few years left on their contracts it means nothing

Since PSR was introduced.

I’d love us to sign Bowen for footballing reasons and I agree he’d be a good fit.
But, due to the beloved PSR, it would likely be a big mistake. He’s bound for one of those badly run clubs who p*ss money up the wall but can still spend whatever they want on whoever they want.

We either low balled on purpose knowing it would never be accepted or some unknown reason.

You mention grandstanding, it reflects well on both clubs as we look liked we submitted a bid and Palace come off looking good too that they rejected the bid; both sets of fans are appeased.

We have an excellent scouting team. They could not have a better track record since the takeover so I don't doubt for one minute that they hadn't identified numerous players we could have bought in the last two years to improve the team.

That’s some serious conspiracy theorising. Believing we’ve gone back to the Ashley days of ‘fake bids’.

Surely it’s more feasible that we/Eddie believed (with good reason) that we were taking a massive risk not bringing another CB in, so we were reluctantly prepared to bring one in, in the knowledge that to pay for it down the line we’d have to sell someone of relative significance.

As it was, we couldn’t get the deal done and we ultimately decided to risk bringing no one in, which we got away with by Schar and Burn staying fit for virtually the entire season.

That might be true, but we've hardly uncovered (m)any gems. Probably only Minteh? (could also include Hall but he was extremely highly rated already).

Our signings have been class, but let's not pretend that we're finding the next global superstar.

Not sure Bowen would knock back a stint in Saudi mind. Have him a couple of years and he could help deliver another trophy. Worth £60 million in my opinion. Feel like we'd get at least £40 million back at some point.

It's not about finding the next global star, though you could argue Isak fits that bill even though we paid a sizable fee.

It's about finding players to suit the team and make it better. From buying the right players to fight relegation to players for the future and Champions League football, we have not put a foot wrong. A good scouting team is not about finding gems, it's about getting the big transfers right which is also the case for Liverpool and why they're champions.

So we both agree that we had no money due to PSR?

How could we buy a player knowing we'd have to sell a significant player before the PSR deadline the following summer? The player we earmarked to sell could easily have been injured or out of form to command a decent fee. I don't for one minute suspect Howe would agree to go through what we did last year and the turmoil it caused within the call when we had to sell; you could argue Gordon hasn't been the same since then.
