Not everyone we're targeting will be at the tournament and if they're not there's no reason signing can't get done. I don't see it as a huge issue.

Lots of good players are technical and have physical attributes. I keep using the Rayan lad compared to Elanga.  
 

Bruno plays for us - he’s the main ball progressor for Brazil NT. Hall flourishes. Relatively great players would struggle under Howe.

Has Bruno changed his game since he joined? I'm sure he plays the percentages and looks to buy more fouls now than in his early days. 

 

The argument isn't that physical and technical attributes can not be in the same player, but rather the manager puts greater emphasis on the physical and in their system than allowing the technical attributes to shine.

Hmm, not sure, he always invited contact from opponents even when he first arrived. Tries to roll them etc. 

 

Maybe he's doing it more very recently because the team is struggling and he's trying to create some breathing space.

Guardiola’s style is boringly technical - Grealish didn’t fit because he ultimately isn’t good enough and is unprofessional to boot.  
 

Tiki-taka was always about all retention.  If there is a criticism of Guardiola’s style, it’s that he’s always signed the most technical players possible and then reined in their creativity, favouring ball retention at all costs.  Pep’s sides defend in the opponents half with ball retention.  
 

Howe’s style of play is nothing like Pep’s - it’s all gegenpressing stuff, requiring athletes.  The problems started when teams started playing against us like they would any top side - and sitting back.   Howe had no answers to it - which is why our record against midtable sides over the last few years is relegation form (not hyperbole).  It works against the best sides when we can play as underdogs, and we tend to be ok against the bottom sides as we have enough quality to overwhelm them.

I hope he's planning to revamp the style, but I don't think he will because he knows full well that he cannot have another slow start to the season next year.

 

I think Eddie will think it's too big a risk to implement something new if it means early growing pains, some early losses. He'll stick with the style and approach he knows, I think. It's his ride or die. And I'm really not sure I can take another year watching us crossing the ball into an empty box.

Eddie Howe is a pressing and high tempo football manager. He cannot suddenly change into a possession football manager. Managers have their philosophies that they largely stick by.

 

He needs to do a better job of signing players with better technical ability and ball retention that are still capable of playing the style of football he prefers. These players are out there. He has been limiting himself massively by leaning towards Prem experience more recently, looking for guarantees, that ultimately didn't pan out.

 

The main issue of late has been the recruitment IMO. Get that sorted and the rest should follow.

Yeah it's not a comparison on style of play, but rather they both are real system managers which restricts either the type of player they target or restricts the player from playing their natural game.

 

Football in general is rapidly going/has gone that way but Pep and Howe are real heavy players
