NUFC Transfer Rumours

Look, if Eddie wants DCL, he’ll come here and he’ll be useful, at worst. I fail to understand how any of you can have observed what Eddie’s done here and not come to the same conclusion. It’s a free signing to fill a quite unique gap in the squad. It’ll be fine. The limitations you see in DCL’s game so far will not apply once he’s had a bit of time with our coaches. Stop fucking moaning about it [emoji38]

I find this take a little odd tbh. EH and our coaching team have demonstrably proved effective in raising some players games. Most, even. But not all. If it was such a given then why can’t EH just make Osula score goals instead? Why can’t he make Longstaff a Tonali regen? Why is Targett still not as good as when he was a loan signing? Why didn’t he make the Almiron purple patch a permanent one?

The players got to have the skill set and the desire to keep putting in the work. They have to have both, all the time. I’ve no doubt Longstaff and Almiron had/have the desire but didn’t have the elite skills and the ability to slow the game down mentally and make time the way much better players do.

Maybe DCL can, maybe he has both. We can say, looking at his past record he hasn’t shown it so far. Because he hasn’t, he’s a risk. Up to the brains trust to decide if that’s a risk worth taking. But it’s not a nailed on success just because EH is involved. EH looks excellent at facilitating a players growth but it’s the player that actually does the growing.

Useful, at worst.

Of course Chelsea need a 9th keeper, why not?

To be fair, if Chelsea are after him maybe he’s shite?

Given their recent track record with keepers.

While I agree mostly, I don’t think that should mean people can’t have opinions on better or worse signings. There’s opportunity cost to everything and it’s understandable fans might prefer someone who’s less proven to be average.

Aye, fine. I’m sick to death of the moaning about it though Ian.

Whilst we're agreeing it's ok for people to have opinions is it ok other people to think, and say, that opinion is utter fucking gash? 😉🤔😂

Fair enough, I shouldn't have moaned about the moaning about the moaning.

I wasn’t moaning, Ian, I was making a decisive intervention.

We don't have 4 out on loan, tbf.

That’s why the words in our squad are key

Worth noting that no fucker scored goals under Dyche bar the CB's, I think

Not sure what has happened with Beto recently.  As I don't think he has been playing.  But Moyes came in and suddenly he looked like a competent striker and scored a few close together.  Looked a totally different player to when he seemed worse than useless under Dyche.

I'm not saying I'm mad keen on DCL.  But on a free and if the wages aren't daft.  I think it's a pretty decent back up and a different type of player to Isak to bring on in games.  Wouldn't be against it if the rumours were true.

Of course I'd rather we signed Delap if he was interested in coming here to sit on the bench and turned down countless other offers.  Or Mbuemo who could cover two positions.  But I don't think they are particularly realistic and would cost too much for what they are bringing to the squad.

Ability wise, I have no issue with DCL, especially given Eddie gets an extra 20% out of everyone.

But we've seen the issues of relying on a back-up with an unreliable fitness record, particularly with Isak not being the most robust himself. It feels like a risk rolling that dice again.

I'd trust Nickson/Mitchell finding a gem or two in a different league over spending 100m on Mbeumo and Huijsen tbh.

Our success rate on transfer since the takeover is pretty mad. I'd trust Nickson to find us more class signings. Add Mitchell to the mix and I can't see owt but success.

Especially once the coaches get their hands on them.

I wonder if our link to Retegui is actually true or just agent talk. Don't think I've ever seen him as anything other than a striker, and doubt he'd come here to sit on the bench. Shame though as he's a tidy player.

You make some reasonable points but this just isn’t worth engaging with seriously.

It was a valid question that deserves an answer.

You guys are always happy to selectively laud Howe's coaching when linked to certain dross.

Getting giddy for a injury proned guy who's averaged 1 goal in 5 over his last 4 seasons striker is silly even if he's on a 'free'.

Let's aspire beyond mediocrity
