It was a valid question that deserves an answer.

You guys are always happy to selectively laud Howe's coaching when linked to certain dross.

Getting giddy for a injury proned guy who's averaged 1 goal in 5 over his last 4 seasons striker is silly even if he's on a 'free'.

Let's aspire beyond mediocrity

Bollocks. Roids has us sussed, guys.

Do you reckon if we weren't shackled by PSR we'd be making a move for DCL on a free? I don't.

We’re mediocre are we?

With the caveat that it would have to be no fee and not crazy wages I would certainly be ok with DCL…if it allows us to strengthen elsewhere significantly

Simples, play him every fifth game, give Isak a rest and he scores every game he plays, can't say fairer than that!.

He isn't the most exciting player we are linked with but could do a job and flesh out a paper thing squad, and we could probably flip him in a year to West Ham etc

We've just won our first domestic trophy for generations, we could well be playing in the CL and we have the best midfield in the league. DCL should be absolutely nowhere near our list of targets, PSR or no PSR. He would be the most underwhelming signing we could make.

Arsenal have just spent a month playing Mikel Merino up front. DCL would be handy as fuck in an equivalent scenario.

These sentiments here are why I'm super chilled about who we sign. We've basically never had a Newcastle regime with this much credit in the bank, and our transfer misses have been minimal.

I'd prefer not to sign DCL either although I did like him (many) years ago when he was putting in good numbers for Ancelotti. The backup forward slot is hard to fill for any club because anyone anywhere near Isak's level will not settle for loads of time on the bench.

All signs are we'll need to be quite creative with our spend this summer and CB, RW, GK are where the big money needs to go imo, probably followed by a midfielder and a striker for not much.

PIF should be asking some very, VERY serious questions of Paul Mitchell.

We're not so shackled to be making Ashley era signings

Some posters on here are still suffering with Stockholm syndrome from the Ashley regime

We wouldn't meet DCLs wage demands under Ashley.

That doesn't make sense.

I haven’t seen anyone getting giddy

Minor exaggeration on my end, but DCL talks shouldn't be entertained in the slightest.

My personal take on 'free' transfers is that if you wouldn't be happy to spend £20m on the player, they aren't worth it.

DCL isn't worth it whatsoever.
