It would be an absolutely grim signing and every single one of you would recognise it as such if Spurs or Man Utd bought him.

If they were signing him as their main attacker and paying over odds. We are not signing him as main striker, and fee is unknown at the moment.

Not a very inspiring target if true like, he's pretty much washed at this point and I don't think he suits our style either. Would rather take a punt on some random young foreigner that could go either way than DCL.

He's got something but just too injury prone and expensive for me, got to be way better value elsewhere

You know what you are getting with DCL though, and injury prone is slightly harsh IMO. No where near Wilson who is the definition of injury prone.

A younger version (talking Solanke type) is north of £50m+

Talent abroad, likes of Zirkee, around that fee too, but then they’re not playing every week as Isak is defacto number 1. We’re losing Wilson most likely, so need a back up striker that’s happy with that, and one that doesn’t cost much. That reduces market loads unless we go for a raw talent.

Didn’t realise he was nearly out of contract. Could be one of those gambles that ends up being quite clever but clearly a huge risk. Assume this signals the end of Wilson and you could argue there’s little difference between the pair of them.

Edwards says "The England international’s name has always featured prominently in recruitment meetings and Newcastle have been pushing hard to sign the player for the last few weeks".

So he's never been discussed as an option by us ever.

Well we only have the media to rely on, but its not the first time DCL has popped up.

If DCL was able to be fully fit I still struggle a bit with understanding what his role would be in the team. Isak is our star striker. DCL is a fairly traditional striker with good movement but he’d have to occupy the Centre Forward position as he can’t drop deep or do the build up play so what’s the plan? That he only comes on when Isak comes off? E.g. he’s a sub? He’s good enough (if he has a clean bill of health) to be a starting striker for over half the teams in the premier league but not for us. I’m a bit baffled by this one

Four four fucking two?

In the last three seasons:

- Calvert-Lewin has made 67 league appearances out of a possible 114.

- Wilson has made 69 league appearances out of a possible 114.

And a chunk of those Wilson absences are a product of him playing second fiddle to Isak, whereas basically all of Calvert-Lewins’ are through injury.

Barely missed a game last season through an injury like wrestling for the ball and tearing a pec muscle.

22-23 the injury hit season, outside that largely fine muscle wise which is where the injury prone would be a concern.

It’s probably worth saying again but EH improves players. That’s his thing. Also think a lot of people are far too kind to Wilson due to his goal record (which is obviously really good). He’s sorely lacking in open play and often kills our build up play IMO.

Its Longstaff that should be part of this Lewin deal

Who wanted Longstaff again? Leicester? That one seems to have gone quiet

edit - although if we’re doing it as a PSR wheeze with one going the other way then fair enough.

Disagree with the first bit. I’d just look at it as a sensible signing for a club that needed backup. Also, neither of them have a coach who specialises in getting the best out of players. After what he’s done with Gordon and countless others, Howe deserves the benefit of the doubt.

Everton forums covering dcl interest and theirs in minteh.

35m + DCL then maybe consider. Plus a 10m buy back clause and 20m extras if he makes 30 plus appearances.

Maybe worth considering then

Happens loads where we're linked continuously and there's nothing in it

My guess is Isak will be the clear first choice CF.

DCL will cover when Isak needs a rest (his fitness is clearly something we need to be clever with), either as a sub for the last 20 minutes of games that we're comfortable in or with the odd start in the cups or when we've got a busy week.

There's also the option when we need to change things of putting DCL CF and Isak playing off him, either out left or just in the hole.

Remember in 22/23 when both Wilson and Isak were fit? Like that, essentially. Difference is, Isak is now the established top man at the club and DCL will be coming in a complementary role rather than to be true competition for his place.

It's not the most exciting of signings, to be honest. I'd rather a young player with a bit more in the way of potential.

I can see the logic though, especially if it's a reasonable price and allows us to go big at RW.

Getting DCL and losing Minteh would be a sickener

I've only just realised this is what's happening. I'm just hoping there is a bigger picture where it leads to 2 or 3 big signings. As it is I don't get it.

Excited by this. Would give us a different dimension to what we have. Reckon Eddie could work wonders with his attributes.

He'll have to if this is the striker he wants - and seeing as we seem to have had DCL on our radar for a couple of years now, it clearly is.

I'm happy to go with Howe's judgement, he's not got a lot wrong tbf, but I don't see why we would be paying a big fee if he's got a year left on his contract given his injury history. £15m sounds about right.
