If I could double my wages to move across the road I would be tempted.

He was born in London, got to stay in London, his mom is apparently a Chelsea supporter.

Some of you guys might be jilted lovers, we went in for a player, he went elsewhere, that should be the end of it.

A game by game prognosis is so childish, it's not that serious.  He owed us nothing, good luck to him.

You could also probably assume that he would have been more than happy to come to Newcastle if Chelsea hadn't stepped in. It's similar to the Szoboszlai situation when he moved. In most scenarios these guys would jump at an opportunity to move here, but if the cartel clubs are after them then they can pay more and at this point they have more pulling power due to higher status.

Tosin is very very funny man [emoji38]

Would have included such a clause in a heartbeat. No disrespect to the guy, but those are never coming in for him ;D

 Not sure if he's said more since the video I saw, but Downie never mentioned those two clubs, in fairness to him. Did mention something about 'specific clubs' though.

Like the active clause I've got with my lass if Natalie Portman wants a bit.

So stupid to let the deal go on something like that. You could say it was the unravelling of our window, trying to find a suitable replacement, moving all the funds to the position from elsewhere.

If true of course.

Dunno - I can’t see Ange accepting a player who so explicitly sees us as a stepping stone and I’m with him on that. I get that it’s harder to be sanguine if you miss out on your other CB target (Guehi) but I’d totally understand if you truly refused to insert that clause.

IIRC we were trying to get Tosin in last January and he turned us down - we presumed he was going to wait for the Summer then hawk himself around for the best deal. Sounds like that’s just what he did. Gets to stay in London, gets a long contract on a good salary, maybe gets that dream clause too. It’s done, move on. Didn’t it happen early in the window? Suggests he made his mind up early and Chelsea was always going to be the destination. The bigger concern is why you didn’t get anyone else in at CB in the remaining time.

We’ve been left short in a couple of positions but the feeling is that it’s because Ange and the transfer guys are very clear on who they want. He’d rather just make it work with what he has than bring in guys he doesn’t really want who then clog up the squad. It feels like Eddie Howe has the same approach and I think it’s fair enough, you just need more options when Steve Parish fucks you about.

I'd agree if we were forking out money for him.

On a free though it would have made sense, especially considering our PSR situation.

If someone meets the clause we get decent money out of it as pure profit, to go and sign other players.

I'm almost certain a big part of Chelsea going for him was them knowing they'd be flipping him for money in a year or two so they can keep spending billions.

It's a smart move.

I'm inclined to agree with this, but the difference between us and you is present day revenue. You're not too far off being an unsinkable ship, but we have to keep the hamster wheel turning, and that may have to involve making some messy compromises while we build up our energy reserves.

Would be amazed and deeply concerned if our entire transfer policy was predicated on signing Tosin.

Seemed like it was though.  We ended up only seriously chasing 1 other defender. For our entire budget.

Aye we aren’t in the same boat as Spurs.

Spurs have also spent €420m in just over a year. Roughly double our spend in that period. Spurs have spent €100m on teenagers.

They chose Badiashile vs Villa, but should atleast be getting more minutes, yes.

My God ...

Saw when he went down and just looked like a strain or sprain.

He'd been going pretty strong too. Wow.

Could see them going and bringing back Guehi.
