Lloyd Kelly

Recommended Posts

The lad's not had much of a chance really. But to be blunt, I've not seen anything of him that makes me think he's anything better than any youth players we have that could be blooded. For me, when he's come on he's looked decidedly average and not particularly strong, I wouldn't be that bothered if he was sold.

Hes good enough for many PL clubs, so going to Turkey at this stage of his career seems weird.

He's not going to Turkey, it's just a shit link pulled out of someone's arse for clicks.

Fenerbahce Vice President Acun Ilıcalı (who also owns Hull City) apparently confirming they're trying to sign Kelly:

"We are negotiating for the transfer of Lloyd Kelly. He is a player we are interested in. If we can reach an agreement, we will make the transfer of this player happen."

Realistically he was an opportunistic signing to fill a gap at CB/LB. He was only ever going to be a squad player and the emergence of Hall as our #1 LB and Botman returning from injury (hopefully Krafth/Lascelles to follow) makes him expendable.

Transfermarkt has his value at about £15m so anywhere in that ballpark would be good business imo.

This seems pretty unlikely, although the Fener VP confirming is interesting.

Looks like we want to keep Schar a little longer, Krafth is back imminently and Botman doing well at RCB has, in Eddies own words "given us something to think about going forward" and in the market.

Maybe we have a different CB target and are happy to let Lloyd go to fund it.

Because it's a turkish team I am just assuming they will want him on loan rather than paying any decent money.

I could be putting two and two together and getting five - but it wouldn't stun me if there was a £500k-£1m sort of number needed to be raised to facilitate a bit of PSR headroom which Dubravka's sale was needed to fill and now that looks unlikely we are looking at other options. Presumably a Kelly loan would raise around that figure.

Yeah but the imminent Jamie Miley to Saudi for 30m should cover that 😉

Each place up the league is worth £3m+ so I don't think they'll currently know how much wriggle room they need to that degree of accuracy. Far too many variables between now and 30th June.

10-15 otherwise we might as well keep him and sell him for that or more in the summer. 6m now that is the rumoured bid doesn’t really help us much now.

He also joined us off the back of an injury at Bournemouth.

And I think he has looked way off the levels he showed there which has been quite alarming.

It was a hip injury and I don't know if it's had lingering effects, but he doesn't look as dynamic or explosive as I remember.

Some key bits from the article ...

Fenerbahce manager, José Mourinho, has had a bid for Newcastle United defender Lloyd Kelly rejected by the Premier League club.

Mourinho is understood to have been the main driving force behind the interest in Kelly as he faced the player several times during his time as a manager with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

-------------------------------------------

Telegraph Sport understands that Newcastle were willing to listen to Fenerbahce’s proposal as Kelly is behind both Dan Burn and a fit again Sven Botman in the pecking order for the left-sided centre-back role, but the opening offer was considerably below their valuation of the player.

As things stand, talks have not progressed and the Turkish club would have to significantly raise their offer for the 26-year-old if they are going to resume.
