Am I wrong in thinking that we'd actually agreed terms with him last summer but put the move on hold for one reason or another. We best actually fucking sign him this time.

No, your not. Personal terms were never an issue here and he's been waiting to sign for us.

It's just your classic Romano update.

If the athletic lot are to be believed the plan is to keep him and Trafford and let them fight it out. Which means Trafford will be warming the bench for the first part of the season.

That's what I was expecting to be honest.

Literally nothing we don't know

We had agreed terms last year but I suspect he'll be getting a higher wage this time, so no we didn't know that they'd agree this time around. Although we did know it was never going to be a problem.

Besides which, FR is clearly saying that move is accelerating and that Trafford is going to be a Newcastle player, which is something we should be happy about.

I wonder how quickly we'll find out whether this means the end of Pope or not. Doubt we'd get an answer from any official club output, ie, I don't see them asking Trafford if he's here to be number one or anything as pointed as that.

Two of the current keepers need to leave really. Obviously won't be Gillespie since he's signed a new deal this summer. So one of Vlach, Dubs and Pope needs to leave along with Ruddy (if he doesn't re-sign)

Personally I think it's kind of crazy. Especially if we're spending £30M+ on him. I think Pope is obviously the best guy for him to learn from but also, that's a lot of money for a bench warming keeper.

Trafford will get the number 1 shirt but whether he starts as number 1 will be based on how he looks in pre season.

What will be interesting is how Pope reacts to the possibility that Trafford takes his place.... will Pope stir for a move?

At the bare minimum I think Pope will be gone in the next 12 months. When does his contract run out.

Need to start him straight away to be honest. £30m to be on the bench is a lot of money on a goalkeeper and his passing could open so many doors for us. If he signs get him straight in there!

Are there any indications of what this will mean for Pope & Dubravka? Vlach doesn't count, he should count himself lucky to even be here.

*edit: Nevermind. Thanks r0cafella

Dubs to Saudi.

Surely we’d have had to re-negotiate terms. So it does indicate he’s fully wanting to come here still. Fab being briefed for two updates in a day on this could mean club/agents are confident something will be confirmed soon.

Howe’s MO has been to bed in new players, particularly younger ones, slowly. Unless Trafford blows everyone away in preseason, I have to imagine Pope will still be #1 to start the season.

Think Dubravka will be off, hopefully to Saudi for £25m :naughty:

Keeping Pope is pivotal to us moving up another level. Same as Pedro possibly signing as it means

the squad depth is significantly improving. Bring it on

Yeah think we keep Popey and move Dubs. The Greek is just meh!
