He's the only CM who is difficult to swap out, Joe Willock is the best fit replacement. You could argue he didn't shine last season, but he's done well previously in that role. In any case, he could be sold and we could use that money to buy a midfielder. He's missed 30%+ of the last few seasons I am sure He's a year older and his style of play is entirely dependent on his physical levels being high / not dropping Tin hat on, but he isn't the most consistent player. I recall many times over the past few years where everyone complains about him having subpar performances, then he has a run of form as is back to everyone's favourite / most important player

He carried on playing a lot through pain iirc. I am assuming given some rest he will have recovered fully and should be good to go a full campaign this time. We did abuse his willingness to play through the pain barrier IMO.

The College Dropout Posted Thursday at 15:01 Share Posted Thursday at 15:01 Can’t gamble on Joelinton, Tonali and Bruno being fully fit and sharp for 60 games. Not even + JP. We need another genuine option even if proper backup. Willock is done here. Howe doesn’t trust him or Longstaff.

I'm not convinced you are on the same page as Howe though.

BennyBlanco Posted Thursday at 17:18 Share Posted Thursday at 17:18 Ahhh I like Willock ya know. Not bad when given a run of games, nice and direct and still cream my pants when I think about that ball vs Spurs. He’s got a terrible injury record granted but I’d keep him for another year. Be useful with the extra games.
Sean Posted Thursday at 17:40 Share Posted Thursday at 17:40 I've liked Elanga for a while now. Mainly due to his personality and attitude. Think he'd fit right in here and would improve, as the desire is there.
JigsawGoesToPieces Posted Thursday at 18:03 Share Posted Thursday at 18:03 Personally think £45m is a good deal for Elanga, hes not worth any more than that. What would people say the price we should walk away at is as we cant keep buying players at premium price because all it will do is limit us and or expedite the sale of a purple like Bruno, Gorson, Isak to rebuild, similar to what Villa dis when they sold Grealish. I did previously at points but I think the injuries have taken the toll on him or something isn't right. That pass from him again spurs for Isak a couple of years ago was phenomenal. One of the best assists I've ever seen. He also kept us up when on loan from arsenal that year as well. But in general too inconsistent and we can probably get a few for him at the moment to West Ham Edited Thursday at 18:11 by relámpago blanco

He was generally causing hammock for defenders that season, especially in the second half of the season. Lightning quick, even with the ball at his feet. He doesn't seem to have the same explosiveness anymore. Achilles injuries can be a nightmare. Edited Thursday at 19:43 by Erikse
