Find it interesting who people pick as their managers. I grew up in the 90s so will always idolise Keegan and the entertainers team he created, we really should have won the league under him so he is still my number 1.

Bobby and Eddie have had similar trajectories taking over us when we were bottom and getting us into the Champions League but Eddie done it a year earlier and has also reached a cup final and possibly another so I'd probably but Eddie at number 2 now. If he wins a cup he'll go to the top of the tree

Are we saying Beye > Debuchy?

He seems to be in a lot of second XIs whereas I remember Debuchy was really good when he first arrived

Not for me - Debuchy better on a number of counts IMO (especially technically and going forward)

Beye was comfortably better than everyone pre-Trippier for me, but Debuchy would probably come second in that era.

What’s the issue? Perfectly understandable to leave the Premier League’s top scorer and arguably NUFC’s greatest player in modern (ish) history out of an all time PREMIER LEAGUE XI

It's not either or though, just hoy them all in!

Beardsley's our best player in the PL era. A genius.

Shearer being omitted from a prem XI is more ridiculous IMO. But I only saw Beardsley towards the end and not fully in his prime.

His numbers are ridiculous, mind.

I know Beardsley played in the premier league but I grew up with him, waddle, keegan and the Gazza era, I was a kid aged 7 living in South Africa and my dad moved us back when keegan signed.  I just don’t think it’s right picking Beardsley without the others from that era.  As for shearer personal opinion records outstanding but we played better football and arguably more successful before he signed.  I’m also not sure he had a positive impact on the team, dynamic rumours jealous of the fans adoration of ginola

Can people who picked Pope over Given explain why?

The question is more why is that such an outrageous concept?  Given was dropped on occasions and Sir Bobby preferred Harper at times.

First I’ve ever heard of the Ginola rumour - and Ginola was completely off the boil when Shearer joined; the grumbles and complaints re his effort and output had already started when Shearer signed.  Ginola would be a weird player for Sheree to be jealous of …

Beardsley in his second spell is still the best player we had in the PL era.  The idea of Ferdinand or Asprilla ahead of him is odd.  Beardsley would be the first name on the team sheet of anyone who saw him.  He’s the closest English football ever produced to Messi.

I’d probably pick Given over Pope but I don’t think Given was a great keeper by any stretch - picking Pope over him seems fairly rational; I think Pope pre-injury probably was a better keeper.

Not sure about that - I’d be tempted by Isak and Beardsley as a front two.  Shearer’s numbers in the PL era were heavily stacked by four seasons at Blackburn - we got one season of the Shearer we paid all that money for.  His average in his first season with us was the same as his goal average for Blackburn - 0.81 per game.  After his injury at Goodison, he never came close to that average again.  It’s incredible that he continued to score goals at the highest level after he came back, but he had to completely change his style of play and the team had to be fundamentally rebuilt to cover his loss of pace.

Wouldn't omit Shearer either, but yeah Beardsley 93 to 96 is about as good as we've had it in my lifetime like, like Ben Arfa level wtf moments, but more regularly and with an extremely high work rate.

Given

Albert Woodgate Botman

Solano Bruno Lee Ginola

Beardsley

Isak Shearer

Probably the best I can come up with that still looks like a viable formation. Can only imagine how many goals Shearer and Isak could score with those five behind them. Nobby might have to do a bit of tracking back at times...

Born in 1990 so the entertainers era was all through the telly and the old black and white videos for me. So I will go from 03 when I first started going on me own to games

Given

Schar woodgate colo

Solano Bruno Tonali Robert

Ben Arfa

Shearer  Isak

Howe manager

Hall isn't far off but he's not done quite there yet for me. Ben Arfa was as talented as anyone I've ever seen play here and 3 at the back is the only way to get him in

Robson took over in early September though, Howe in November I think so we were much more in the mire, with a much worse squad. Agree about Keegan.

I’ll do one from when I first started seriously following the club (2011-12):

Pope

Trippier

Schar

Coloccini

Santon

Bruno

Tiote

Cabaye

Ben Arfa

Ba

Isak

Cheating a bit by swinging Isak out left…could also be convinced to put him central and Gordon left. Hall for Santon on current form, Tonali will overtake Tiote soon enough, and Botman should replace Colo if he gets back to where he was pre-injury.
