  Why are we discussing moving the highest ranked player in this thread out of position to accomodate the lowest ranked player?

Because it is what Liverpool will be least expecting, or something like that.

Sounds like one of Baldrick's cunning plans.

How many times have Isak and Wilson started together? I’d hazard a guess at not many. I remember games where they’ve ended up on the pitch together. Either as a 2, Isak left or just behind Wilson. But that has usually been off the bench, from memory? Fulham home, Brentford away, Everton away and the final all spring to mind.

As for not beating Liverpool with Isak up front. What sort of argument is that  He has scored 3 goals against them and had one ruled out for a ridiculous offside. He also got VVD sent off playing up top and is just about the only striker in the league who regularly worries him. The same can be said for the supposed best CB pairing in the league at Arsenal.

How many times have we beat Liverpool in the Prem era? Not really sure what relevance there is between not beating them of late and Isak playing up front. I fail to see the correlation?

Re read my post before you laugh as I added the disclaimer.

The correlation is that trying something different is stupid yet repeating what we’ve done before that’s never worked isn’t. Make that make sense.

I wish people would digest a post properly before responding.

Move our best finisher and link up player out wide to put a guy who can't run anymore centre forward?

Has Arne Slot logged in to LFEEs account?

Was clean through at least twice when we played them the other week (Wilson).

I did digest it.  It didn't make it any less ludicrous (IMO).

Small sample size of Isak playing well quite a few times against Liverpool and not winning in those games.  Which is fairly common when we play them.  So let's shift him wide left to accommodate a player who can barely break into a jog these days.

Also, you seem to be highlighting Isak's stamina as an issue in your frankly bizarre post saying he's a B ranking.  Yet you want to shift him left wing.  Where TAA will force him to go the other way, just as much, if not more, than Isak would do to him.  As they will have a lot more of the ball.  Just leave Joelinton to sort 2-3 players all the while then?  Or is Isak expected to follow him and then get even more burnt out?!

Make it make sense.

I wouldn't start with it but it would be nice to have two finishers on the pitch at some point if we need it.

I wouldn't start with Barnes.  But you'd imagine he'll be on the pitch at some point.  There's another finisher.

We had to move Gordon more central to basically run for Wilson and do his pressing for him, whilst also trying to block passing lanes.  Howe even alluded to this in a roundabout way with his comments after the match.

Only time I remember is starting Isak left and Wilson central was at Leeds at the end of the season we came 4th.

We were shite first half, went a goal down and Leeds missed a penalty. Lucky to get a point that day.

The ability to shift Isak left or into a #10 position with Wilson up top was a huge weapon that season, but it’s something that worked well because we only started one of them and then sprung that for the last half hour or so. I’d very much like to see us target a CF this summer to give us that option again but Isak has been too good at CF to do that to accommodate a rusty and possibly finished Wilson.

He’s a clear A also.

See the final thread with suggestions of 4-4-2 with Isak be the the left forward of two.

How did that end up going?

He got ahead of the defence. So that would suggest he’s still got enough pace if runs timed correctly. Which is what you questioned. How did that end up going?

However you spin it, replacing Isak at CF for Wilson is footballing suicide. The balls were in behind, and he was free. He hardly broke free from defenders and pulled away. They caught him and he fluffed his shots. Another 50cm and he'd likely have lost the ball.

So even less control of the middle and one less runner in there. Bruno’s lack of mobility being even more exposed.

Or Joelinton having to play very narrow/caught between two positions and doing neither.

No tah.

I’m not spinning anything. You said Wilson couldn’t run and I highlight he could, certainly sufficiently enough to be in with a chance of scoring. You span it by criticising his finishing. Just except it was an ill thought binary comment.

No, I criticised his running too. You can't tell me you watched that game and thought "Oh he's sharp". I mean if the bar is can he physically run, then yeah, he did what would be termed running. If the bar is a bit higher and you ask "Can he run fast enough and long enough to be justifiably demote Isak from his best position, arguably performing as the best centre forward in Europe the past few months? The answer would be a resounding no.

Wilson’s movement and reading of movement is still good. What isn’t good is the fact his legs are totally fucked. He can get into good positions but if he has to run 25 yards at a sprint pace he’s going to lose out to most defenders in the game nowadays

Less than 25 yards, I’d say.

We just saw him when he was fresh and against tired legs, trying to make runs in behind and then giving up. Due to him not even being quick enough to run off the back shoulder of the Brighton defenders.

It must be really frustrating that his body has given up on him. With even half the injuries, he’d still be a very good player. In reality, he is miles past it.
