We fucking dominated them and controlled them from whistle to whistle, they had and did nothing. I had an idea of how we could win that game prior to kick off but it was very much a case of grabbing something then clinging on for dear life - riding our luck and just about spawning it, that was the only way I saw us winning it. But we controlled that game from start to finish and totally snuffed them out as an attacking unit for 93 minutes. I honestly didn't know we were capable of that performance on that stage against that opposition but we completely fucking nailed it Every single player did exactly what was asked of him, the tactics worked to perfection and all of their threats were basically nullified by our positioning and good play, sensible, no-nonsense, risk-free play and we squashed the best team in the league out of the game and bullied them in a Cup Final. Impressive isn't even close to what we did yesterday, it was outstanding, we were on it from the first minute til the 101st. The best footballing day of my life and it was 100% deserved, no luck involved, the best team won and it could and should have been by more. We played the cunts off the park, we're capable of anything Not trying to be wise after the event, but I said in a WhatsApp group chat at the beginning of the week that we should play the game like Bournemouth played us at St James', beating the press by going long over the top into the channels. I was gutted that day but was really impressed by Bournemouth, and I think maybe Eddie learned something from that defeat.

Pinch us! Aye. All the shat we went through is actually part of why this feels how it feels. The near misses experienced or handed down, the 70years, Ashley. Other clubs (Boro, Coventry, Luton, Wimbledon) went as long without winning anything but not with the near misses, including the league and with a history of once being successful to add to the mix

Kid Icarus
Actually mad how many pre-match 2-1 predictions I've seen. Two of them have the goalscorers as well, one of which is the Wealdstone Raider

That was pretty fucking accurate

Imagine how ridiculous that would feel. A euphoria that fans of certain teams will never even have the possibility of experiencing.

Thank fuck they didn't matter in the end, but that was fucking ridiculous Probably, there was maybe a 30s VAR pause for Isak's disallowed goal. 30-60s for Isak's actual goal as pretty long celebrations. Joelinton/Isak injury a minute and a half at least, probably the same for Sandro when Bruno slid into him. 3 sub instances for Liverpool and 3 for us. Think you add 30s for each of those, plus Isak had gone down for a bit before he went off and Murphy was hobbling around like a limp chicken so maybe even longer for slow subs. Plus bits added here and there for general timewasting.

We would have been absolutely fucked if that went to extra time and all like with the team we had out there.
Izakaya
Today of all days, my brain threw out a reminder of this wonderful few paragraphs from the late Hunter S Thompson, which I have paraphrased slightly. I feel we really are on the precipice of something big here. "*Newcastle* in the middle *20s*was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run . . . but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant. . . . There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. . . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . . And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. . ."
