We are now part of the top 7, the replacement of the top 6, so our fixtures will be on TV more often than not. Watching the broadcast in the US of the Forest game today they mentioned Newcastle quite alot. They are on the radar big time.
Stottie
15 hours ago, The Prophet said: We've also beaten Arsenal (twice), Chelsea, Forest, Villa and Bretford at home, along with draws against Liverpool and City. There's a big distinction in the home and away fork when it comes to top half teams. Chelsea are an extreme possession team, the type we do well against by winning high turnovers and hitting them on the counter. They are also playing Thurs-Sun, usually a recipe for teams struggling. Nico Jackson can do the turn and run in behind thing Watkins does, so we'll have to watch for that vulnerability, not just pace on the wings. Our team as a whole shouldn't be as knackered as we looked at Villa, our latest big test. Our second latest big test was the Carabao final where we beat easily the best team in the country. Isak has four in five vs. Chelsea, including two this season.

All their front three have pace and ability to take players on, they have an extremely gifted #10 who can pick out passes and create chances from nothing and they have real recovery speed in their defensive line. They've also got a massive amount of quality on the bench in pretty much every position other than at ST. I'm expecting a nervous 1-0 or 2-1. It's going to be very very close indeed. Abacus
Wish this was a bit later than 12, but hopefully we'll be right up for this one. End of the day, if we want Champions League we need to be better than these especially at home. It's going to be one heck of a game.

We need as much pace as possible at the back, Livra and Botman would improve that. Would also have Gordon on for Murph, his aggression and pressing is much better and as we haven´t been giving Isak service of late, a change may be due?? Ginola14
I'm more nervous about this now their form is picking up and they have a lot of quality I don't think their European game will have any effect on them - they're not travelling and are in a position to play their second team I imagine all their preparation this week will be for SJP - it's a much bigger game for them knowing a win will most likely get CL same goes for us of course - I'm hoping we can play like we want it more and they shrivel up against our intensity - they do strike me as a team without much heart sometimes quality players just rise to the occasion thougn so I expect another stressful game either way
David Edgar
I said the other week that they have fixed their build up and now they're gonna start doing much better. Got laughed at, but hey ho. It will be a very tough game. We should play deep and counter attack them. Do not give them space and time for rapid transitions.
The Prophet
Aye, you'd imagine they'll have a B team out on Thursday, it didn't really need to be moved tbh.
t00nt00n313
Kinda feels like we've gone from a lot of people foolishly acting like this will be an easy game because Chelsea are poor, to a lot of people dooming and acting like we don't have a chance real quickly. buzza
Lavia in the middle and Caicedo on the right (tucks into the middle when they have ball) has made a huge difference to them and they seem much more solid at the moment. They also have a pacy attack and Palmer´s creativty. We will miss Big Joe a lot in this game. Question is, who will step up in the middle? I don´t think Willock is the one for this game as it will be a difficult battle in there, I would almost prefer gordon or Miley just for their battling qualities... It's neither in reality. Both teams are very dangerous in their own way. We have the home advantage, but that's kinda negated by Joelinton being out. Any result is possible, that's why there will be nerves on both sides of the fanbase. Their supporters will be dreading it, and I know I am very apprehensive about it just because so much is riding on it.

The fans are going to have to get used to these types of crunch games just like the players. They are needed to help buoy the team at times like this and intimidate the opponent. I so hope it’s a bear pit and not one of angst. We’ll see soon enough. An early goal for us wouldn’t go a miss!
mondonewc
Chelsea's away form in order Fulham - Won 2-1 Brentford - Drew 0-0 Arsenal - Lost 1-0 Villa - Lost 2-1 Brighton - Lost 3-0 Man City - Lost 3-1 Palace - Drew 1-1 Ipswich - Lost 2-0 Everton Drew 0-0 Spurs Won 4-3 We are better than these and we should be expecting to beat them. I'm very confident we'll get it done, again!

The early kick off might make for a more nervous atmosphere, that's my worry. Fans will have had less time to get some drinking in which normally inflates the confidence nicely. buzza
Been on a couple of their forums, they are not that confident. they see SJP as a bogey trip and that the early game will upset them. They seem to think that Caicedo tucking into the middle (from righ back) is a disadvantage and will give us a free channel to attack them down with gordon or barnes... Good point! I was a lot more confident a few weeks ago, not so much now with Joelinton out but also because a draw helps Chelsea a lot more than us as well. It's a must win game for us now but only a must not lose for them, makes a big difference. Edited 6 hours ago by Geogaddi

This will be a tight affair.
