Shearer would have gone mental if he played last night,Countless times we failed to put a ball in from the right due to patterns/triangles being played out.You know the one Miggy/Trips/Bruno did it for ages and ends up with a tap in

Elanga cant do it & Gordon wont do it!

6ft8 Wolt gets subbed and then the balls come flying in

Wolt was in the box waiting all game

The whole attacking unit is just very disjointed.

Both Woltemade and Wissa have received poor service, particularly from the wingers. It doesn't help that they start so deep and wide.

Woltamade needs to learn to use his frame (an issue he's always had, but improving at) and improve at attacking the eighteen yard box.

It's all very fixable though, there were similar discussions about Isak in his first sesson.

The wingers need to sit narrower and the fullbacks provide the width. This happened for the last 20 minutes but it needs to be the default.

Agree, maybe it's been a problem because we didn't have our FBs for so long. But the wingers do seem to be told to sit very wide.

Said it before, in theory Woltemade should be the ideal foil for Barnes and Gordon, as well as people like Ramsey running from midfield. Not so easy to make work in practice I guess.

It's the defensive vulnerability I guess. If the fullbacks go it leaves us with 2 at the back and we all know what happens when our midfield has to defend..

There were plenty of times when chasing that Wilson and Isak played together and they were very similar types of striker

there’s been no attempts at all to play Wissa and Wolt together at all even when we need a goal

not sure why.

when Wissa was coming on yesterday I was hoping he would come on for Gordon so Barnes Wolt and Wissa were upfront

Wolte can not play on the shoulder.

Wolte is scared to throw an elbow, win a header and be target man.

Unless Ross Wilson can spring Jamal Musiala and rest of the German front line - I don't know how this guy is a 20+ striker we build our team from.

When Wilson signed. I finally thought we'd replaced Demba Ba - a proven goalscorer.

No matter how shit Bruce era was, I trusted that we had a striker to score somehow. Callum Wilson did.

Bruno finally replaced the sale of Cabaye. (Jack Colback wasn't it. Jonjo Shelvey wasn't it either!!)

I don't have that feel about this guy. He's soo scared of going past or running past a defender.

He's beautiful silky technique, but he does that against Malta and San Marino for Germany. Lets be right, Gateshead could mark him out of 60mins how we play for him.

I absolutely love him but I think both he and the team are really struggling when he's on the pitch

there’s no doubt he’s an excellent footballer, but it’s pretty obvious we aren’t playing to his strengths. a conundrum for Eddie this one

I like him a lot and think he is massively talented but do wonder why we bought him as he is totally different to the way we play. It's no coincidence we have won 3 games in a row for the first time all season now that Wissa is back and we can play a way that suits us.

I don't think the issue is with Woltemade tbh. It's not really any better or different with the profile of striker we're more used to with Wissa.

We have to get someone closer to them, and to support the press. Whether it's Joelinton or the wingers.

There are definitely times where he could show better instincts in the box but I don't think that's anywhere near the top of the list of attacking issues.

what the fuck are wrong you guys?

Very simple question: if you don’t give Howe players that suitable for plan B, how could Howe suddenly perform magic and adopt a plan B?

it’s exactly the reason why we need two strikers that can play differently. It’s an excellent combo which gives Howe options to take.

no more “he is not suitable for us” “let’s sell him and get someone that fit our style” bullshit.

Disagree, I think the fact he can't stretch the play by providing any threat of him running behind defenders means we're relying too much on being far too intricate with our midfielders and wingers which we know we don't have. With Wissa at least he provides a threat running behind

Doesn;t help that Big Nick is 6ft 6in but jumps 5ft 11

Point taken on the threat in behind, and agreed with that for when we're counter attacking, but I think the element of our play we're currently struggling most with is when the opponent is deep and we're around their box with the ball. We don't seem to create many opportunities for the striker because everyone sort of knows we're going to look to get the ball to the byline for a cut back. We have to try and find different patterns when we have the ball there. It's from these situations that we lose the ball and get counter attacked easily as well.

Having said that we're creating plenty of chances from set plays and for our midfielders at the moment so we're obviously doing something different.

Big Nick's been poor for a good while. I get he's not the same type of player as Isak/Wissa who look to run in behind etc. but he's not even productive when we're playing to his strengths. He drops in for the short ball to feet but most of the time when we feed him he takes three touches then falls over.

Obviously he laid on a good assist last night and his scoring record is still decent but I think it's papering over a few cracks in his all round game where he's just neither linking up well when dropping in nor offering a threat in behind. I think he's got it in his locker because he was doing well earlier in the season and playing the wingers in with some nice balls. He just needs to move the ball on quicker and not get caught on it

We can't even get the ball out from the back well enough to get the wide players possession further up the pitch consistently, so they get into any kind of rhythm going at full backs or combining in forward areas to create anything.

All down to the broken midfield incompetence IMO.

Wolte for Germany vs Wolte NUFC

I love him as a player - he will never ever score 20 league goals or  30 a season for us

He's got none in his first half a season. Bold claim.
