Newcastle United 4-1 Bradford City (24/09/25) | post-match from pg. 23 | Goal posts O.P.

Seemed like they’d been instructed to take no more than 3 touches on the ball. Looked really good as a result. Didn’t always come off but the threat it poses keeps the opposition very defensive minded.
Hope we see more of that against better opponents. Tonali would love that, he’s built for that.

Don't normally think so much of their videos but the Geordie Journos had a decent take about how yesterday was a glimpse into the future

Only watched about half of it so hopefully they didn't start talking shite but I do agree with some of the takes around Thiaw/Botman/Osula and Miley.

Apologies if already posted haven't had a chance to catch up with all the threads yet.

What a mad take, I thought it was a brilliant performance

It's the best football we've played for a while. Ok the finishing wasn't perfect, but considering we had quite a few fairly inexperienced players in there, some of the more progressive stuff was a real pleasure to watch.

couldn't watch last night but have just watched the full match through.

Thought it looked like a game where we tried to put into action what we've been working on in training with the new front line. There was far more central play than we've ever usually seen under Howe, and I thought it was very apparent that Joelinton was constantly getting into very forward central positions (Barnes was also doing this when he came on from wide), which is exactly what someone has to do if Woltemade plays up front.

I also think with Botman you have an additional line breaker, which is again something that is a necessity when Woltemade is in the team. Wolt only played 20 minutes or something but was heavily involved - probably moreso than a striker manages in a full 90 in our previous Howe seasons.

Really enjoyed how we were trying to play.

The downsides imo were that a) Gordon seems to be carrying on with his main character syndrome where he thinks he's the main guy and has to score all the goals, and b) Miley made quite a lot of errors - I really hope whatever crap he's been getting online hasn't gotten in his head. If you exclude the errors he played really well, but I'm not sure it'll have helped Howe trusting him for bigger games in the immediate future.

Gordon did everything right last night but he needs to find his shooting boots again, start chipping in with goals and he'll be undroppable.

I’m a huge fan of Gordon, one the minority to be delighted when we signed the satorially-challenged Scouse-scamp. But howay, he was far from doing ‘everything right’.
He made a number of wrong choices and missed shit loads of chances. Not saying he was shit. He was full of effort and gave the League One maestros a right headache. He’s not back to his best yet though. Beginning to believe he’s a bit like a younger Raheem Sterling   (bear with me…) with his finishing. Fine when he doesn’t have time to think or gets it out of his feet and shoots in one movement. But give him time to think (overthink?) and he is likely to Mick Martin the fuck out of the ball (nod to the classic and regular ‘He’s pulled the neck off that one’ commentary, rather than Martin’s own, at times, exquisite striking of the ball).

We totally outclassed them.  We balled out (as we should with that strength of team).

Bruno looked like a Brazilian international playmaker against a league 1 side.  Gordon looked like an England international against a L1 side who doesn’t have his shooting boots on.

We were levels.  A lot of nice things you would hope we would see more of going forward.  Quick passing through the middle.

He played how everyone else played, fast, aggressive and progressive, it was a high risk, high reward performance that meant a few wrong choices and wayward passes would be made and they were, by everyone. As has been mentioned, this looked like Howes plan for this game, quick passing through the middle, don't give them chance to block the lines and sit low, it meant we would probably see a high turnover rate but our back line were trusted to deal with any breakaway, which they did in the main. So I do believe he did everything right in that he moved the ball quickly and got into his positions and broke the line a few times, the only thing he was missing for me was being clinical when he got in behind. But I take your point, he's better when he doesn't overthink the shot and has to snap at it.
