Does Newcastle have a better squad than every Serie A Team?

Recommended Posts

Even the lower half sides in Prem have better squads than likes of Roma IMO. Certain areas they lack, but put them in Seria A, they’ll do very well. Referenced it plenty, but the gulf between Prem and outside the elite sides in Europe is daft, and only going to get worse by end of this decade as those leagues struggle for money and Prem sides are spending £100m+ every season.

On paper I'd say yes..

Inter would be close. But Newcastle are stronger than Napoli and Milan on paper.

Transfermarkt agrees.

Well, after that 1st half, I hope we've learnt that TransferMarkt is an atrocious tool to measure squad quality.

That certainly didn't look like a €713m squad vs a 426m one.

A grotty 1 bed flat in some wankville somewhere in London and a 5 bed detached house would be listed at similar prices on RightMove, doesn't mean they're the same quality.

Transfermarkt is far from perfect, but you have to take into consideration that it's much more demanding to play in the PL. So it's easier for the other teams to compete in the CL.

Inter were very unfortunate not to win the CL also - we wouldn't win Serie A

That was a couple of years ago. Their squad is paper thin and appears to have aged quite badly since the Man City final.

Agree we wouldn't win Serie A.
