By all reports Liverpool only decided to sack Slot after the end of the season - last game was 24th May.  Slot sacked on the 29th.

Gordon deal agreed 27th May.

Exactly - it's not Isak we knew Gordon was going - so should have a replacement lined up.  The second Gordon's contract was signed you trigger that clause.  Slot hadn't been sacked at that point.

What do you think is stopping us?

Having the people in charge of transfers spending their days negotiating with Osasuna AND Real Madrid over a fee.

Do you think they were simultaneously telling other clubs we want to sign their LW and they take us seriously? Likewise talking a different LW player and agent with serious intent?

It's not football manager mate. These are people in meetings face to face, or on calls, taking up finite time and resources.

Iraola's arrival might well be a factor, inasmuch as they may not have been interested before.

But we can't really be thinking "Liverpool might appoint a new Spanish manager in a week's time, we better set a deadline for this transfer" if we feel everything is going well. This is just what we know in hindsight.

We knew other clubs were interested and we decided to spend weeks negotiating a fee with a player with a relatively low release clause

Every decent striker moved last summer. Every decent winger will move this summer. We have absolutley horrendous timing on our transfers. Hopefully Wilson is seeing this and strategic enough to know when the next run on players will be. I’m certain I said this before but you have to also time the market when others are looking elsewhere.

I don't think they're in a meeting or they've got a phone to their lug 100% of the time. I think there'll be discussions at various levels of interest and progression, what makes you think otherwise?

I don't think any club puts all their eggs in one basket and negotiates for one player at a time

It's less than 2 weeks since we opened talks based on those tweets. It's not a long time.

Fairy ominous sign for window, yet again we seem to be slow and going for players not that interested

The project has stalled - Eddie let's be honest lacks pulling power.  Players are now more interested in leaving than joining atm.

Cmon Ian man, do you actually believe this? 2 weeks in transfer terms is very long. Especially when they amount being quibbled over is so small.

The idea that speed doesn't matter - is ludicrous.

speed and certainty work in every single transaction of exchanging money in the history of this earth. suggesting otherwise is thick as fuck I’m sorry to say. At the end of the day people want to be paid, handsomely and quickly.

Come on man - in light of what happened last Summer speed was the key.  Liverpool tied up the deal in 24hrs - we've been talking for weeks.

I'm not convinced they did, but they weren't constantly updating the press with how optimistic they were.

Impossible. They need to have Munoz signed and registered before they can even think about another player

You're being silly. The Munoz deal is agreed, the rest is likely to be formalities that don't require the key men to be hands-on.

I would agree except:

1. the player has a reasonable release clause. We knew the exact ceiling of the transfer cost and could've saved 5% of the remaining transfer window time in any scenario

2. We've known Gordon has been off for weeks/months in advance. Why did we only start seriously going after his replacement AFTER agreeing his departure.

Nope. It's silly to think that clubs don't have multiple irons in the fire at any one time

If we knew we’d face competition or not is irrelevant. If he was a target of ours and we liked the deal at 35 or 35+5, and the asking was 40 flat then pay 40 flat. If the player is keen pay him his wages, and if the agent fee is X pay that. Offer a bonus to both if they agree today or 24 hours. Tell them you’re so keen on him and want it done. Want to make him the face of the new rebuild bla bla bla. Thats speed. That’s offering certainty. It takes care of club player and his people.

Give me this at least - when Gordon signed for Barca - we were the front runners.  Slot was still there and Munez is clearly an Iraola signing.  That was the window.
