£25m, like the sound of that.

£10m on a striker/s, £15m on the defence

After today I think we need an attacking midfielder, to play cm unless we use dyer there.

We should have picked up Giles Barnes when we were scouting him at the end of last season.

Think Sidwell is out of contract at the end of the season, not strictly an out and out attacking mid but would do a nice job

personally, if the belgravia group are to pump in lots of cash for players, i think there is a good chance we will see sven here. i cant see them wanting to give glenn all of the money of we are still doing badly and i think they will go for a big name.

i also wouldnt be at all surprised to see a move for beckham.

these guys are looking to raise our profile and to make cash, and becks and sven would certainly raise the profile

Don't want either - this Club needs a new DYNASTY building, NOT trophy signings . Eriksson is a busted

flush who would be OK for a club who have supporters who treat Football purely as a game(like Southampton). He is not either strong enough or charismatic enough for NUFC in the way that O'Neill

would have been.MON was probably the ideal candidate for NUFC, but we have to look elsewhere now.

Scolari would be 10 times better than Sven.

As for Beckham - we don't need another show-biz signing whose best years are gone, and who has a Media circus surrounding him & his retinue.

Beckham would not be as useful to the club as KK was when he came as a player in 82 because KK was

a far more genuine character with boundless enthusiasm for the club to succeed - NUFC will always be

simply a nice little career finisher for Beckham, and the club has moved on from that type of player(at least, it should do if the takeover goes ahead).

i wouldn't mind beckham i dont think in the last 12 months he has suddenly gone past it.

he is far better than Nobby and it would depend on price i reckon - if he's a free agen then why not?

as for manager that is where we need a real massive change - o'neill would've been perfect but we definitely need someone who controls all aspects of the club... thats why i dont think scolari would be good - i'd prefer hitzfeld or similar...

Unless a bid is made and accepted in the next week we will not be taken over by January. To be complete they usually take just over a month so the cut off for the beginning of January is Late November/Early December(Like the first 4 or 5 days).

Christmas deadline as Belgravia mulls over move for Newcastle

Michael Walker

Tuesday November 21, 2006

The Guardian

Belgravia, the company in talks with Newcastle United about a possible takeover at St James' Park, expects to have made either a formal offer, or to have walked away, by Christmas. Effectively that leaves five weeks for the parties to reach agreement and, with Belgravia into their period of due diligence, City sources said yesterday that a bid is "imminent", although that means weeks rather than days.

January's transfer window is a key factor in the self-imposed deadline. Newcastle and Belgravia want to have a sense of certainty going into January, with a Belgravia spokesman saying yesterday that, regardless of speculation about the value of the land around St James' Park, the primary focus would be on improving the club's Premiership standing.

Despite sceptical noises from within St James' about Belgravia's true intentions - there appears to be little belief, publicly at least, that the Jersey-based company will make a bid - Belgravia stressed yesterday that any takeover could not be classified as hostile. "We are in discussions which are ongoing," a spokesman said.

That has been Belgravia's stance since August 21, when it was first revealed that discussions had begun and when they were entitled to begin inspecting the books under the due diligence period.

Newcastle's position, reiterated by the chairman, Freddy Shepherd, at the weekend, is that there has been no official offer from Belgravia or any other party, and even if one or more is forthcoming it does not have to be accepted. However, discussions can be at an advanced stage before any formal bid is declared under Stock Exchange rules.

Newcastle are facing injury problems for Thursday's Uefa Cup visit of Celta Vigo. Damien Duff and Craig Moore will have scans today on injuries picked up in the 1-1 draw at Arsenal. Duff hurt a knee and faces a fortnight out of action, and Moore is also likely to miss the match. This leaves Newcastle with only three fit defenders for the game.

To be honest, it needs to happen in the next fortnight, if we were to stand a proper chance of getting things sorted in time for the Jan window, surely?

That is the basis of today's articles, yes.

Don't know if it will happen, but I hope it will. The club needs a change!

And a shitload of money wouldn't be so bad either....

Moody Dave in his fullest condescending glory there - oblivious to the fact other people may have been away and not been able to stay in touch with developments on the takeover front.

It's been posted in at least two other takeover threads. tongue3.gif

Whatever. Some of us have busier lives than others. Get over it.

I suspect not, and the only ones to blame are the fans - IF there had been some sort of boycott, even for a couple of games, I think Shepherd would have bottled it & sold. The fact that gates are still good has probably encouraged him to dig in and hope his scheme for the Casino comes to fruition before people get REALLY disillusioned.

I wouldn't expect any other group or individual to move in if Belgravia back out and the above scenario becomes reality - the Club will be stuck with the regime for the foreseeable future and it is highly- likely that he will attempt to buy the whole Shareholding with profits & dividends from the new arrangement.

You'd better start sending notes up the chimney for Santa....!
