Premiership side Newcastle United are looking closely at the possibility of signing international defender A. Salmon, Sky Sports can exclusively reveal.

Several scouts have cast a watchful eye over Salmon recently, including Arsenal's David Seaman, but it looks like Newcastle manager Glenn Roeder is now the favourite to secure the player, having been in the crowd which watched Salmon play for Eric Cantona's beach soccer team.

His agent, Billy Fish told us: "Salmon's career has been a bit washed up since Leeds got rid of Risdale's fish tank. He has spoken to Jermaine Jenas, and feels that living in a goldfish bowl would be much better than where he is at the moment, although it is a long term ambition of his to play with the big fish at Chelsea or Real Madrid."

Newcastle have refused to officially confirm or deny their interest, but manager Glenn Roeder is hopeful that this catch will not slip out of his fingers.

From what I've seen of this player, he is quick, agile, and has one great leap on him so he might be better than what we've got, however I'm concerned about the fact that a few years back he was unable to settle at the Riverside stadium when he played for Boro.

Awaits markluk getting over-excited at the prospect of a new signing

so have we signed him then or not?

So far, only Trout put pen to paper and currently swims in our goldfishbowl. But  the brightest star of this transfer window, Salmon, is still in the waters far away from river Tyne.

it'll probably be an upstream struggle to get him here to be honest.
