Weird people complain about this, imo. When they come to Newcastle they get a  city centre stadium, with hundreds of bars/pubs/clubs resteraunts/ activities all within walking distance, and away fans are welcome in all of them.

 

 

Many away days for Newcastle fans are in to some rundown council estate or industrial estate with not much around and segregated pubs.

 

 

There are many home fans who are up as high as the away fans, and you’re not really that faraway from the pitch(West Ham is worse).

 

 

Overall away fans going to Newcastle get a better deal than, Newcastle fans travelling around the country.

Can see why some away fans whinge about being up there. It must be the furthest removed away end in the country.
 

And plenty of them probably can’t be arsed to listen to us whinging about the out of town locations of their grounds.
 

Not everyone cares about being close to boozers, they just want to park their car easily, watch some football and go home straight after.

It’s done that way because to change them to be closer to the pitch would require them to use the turnstiles on the inner circle of SJP, which means crossing over with home fans. They’ll be the first to complain about having to walk through home fans on the way out if they got a bad result and couldn’t handle it.

 

As for the easy parking at retail park stadiums, you find that most of them have parking restrictions preventing fans from parking there, because despite the likes of Tesco and Primark wanting a stadium in their site so it cost them less to build their own stores, they don’t actually want football fans using their car parks.

It’s not as bad as people make out though, especially away fans. I recent weeks I’ve seen Everton fans having a go at our away end, the absolute cheek of it when last season they were still selling away tickets with a letterbox view, a support beam in the way, oh and a wooden seat that reshaped your lumbar support.

 

We then have away fans complaining about our away end because they have had to walk up a few steps because they couldn’t be fucked to wait for the lift. Guaranteed that cunt who made that tweet will be spending £30 a month on a gym membership so he can use the fucking stair master as well.

I was up there for a while before it got disbanded and turned into family enclosure for singing nasty words to a thin skinned owner.

My seats elsewhere now however I've been up a few times this season with the bairn, I like the view both of the pitch and over the east stand/gallowgate.

I know why the away end isn’t by the pitch, I was just saying it’s a shite away end because it’s billions of miles from the pitch. So I can see why away fans complain about it. 
 

And I don’t know the specific details of parking restrictions of the various out of town grounds, I was just making a point that plenty people drive to games and proximity to boozers won’t be an important factor for them.

Aye, I’ll give the short lived L7 singing section special dispensation because it was more about the atmosphere and like minded people being able to gather together.

 

Being a gazillion miles from the pitch was secondary compared to that.

The view isn’t bad though. The fact is you actually get a better view of what’s going on than elsewhere in the stadium, I also find it easier to see who’s in which position etc. I can even sit in level 7 and know if the ball has went out of play at the opposite side of the pitch, or if the ball has crossed the goal line.

 

That’s largely part of the argument. You come to Newcastle and you can drive if you want too, or you can get the train in and walk to the stadium, or if need be fly in and be a 20 minute ride from the Metro station to SJP.

Others have already mentioned about the bars and restaurants, that bloke who wrote that tweet is probably still in his hotel room ready to make use of a long weekend in Newcastle because it’s a great place to double up as a weekend away as well as the football, yet cunts like him will be quick to slate the away end because he’s walked up some steps.

He’s already backtracking and saying the view is great.

You might not think the view is bad, but I do. I want to be near the pitch, so I feel close to the action. In L7 I hate being so far removed from the action.
