Kimbo
I’ve never really understood the town moor or been tempted to go to it. It’s just a field. Still better than Leazes park though, which is a pretty horrible place.

It's one thing to say "isn't it nice we have it?", but how often do you or indeed anyone actually go there? And to do what? For almost all of us, it just exists. It could be infinitely better used. Could put a football stadium on it for starters.
El Prontonise
if you're going to open up the town moor for development, housing should be the priority.

There's a massive housing shortage in this country and all those already with houses and a 'NIMBY' attitude are preventing the next generation getting on the ladder they've gleefully pulled up behind themselves. But that's probably not for this thread!

Could put a football stadium on it for starters. Before moving away from the city I taught my kids to ride their bikes there, exercised the dog and ran there most days myself... Obviously all things I could do in a Central Park type development but not in a housing estate etc. Green space is important to the city or is to me and yes I am old! It makes Newcastle quite distinct from other places. What next - do you want the local accent Thames Valleyfied or Grey Street straightened or The historic Guildhall turned into an American restaurant chain? Charlies
Used to use the moor for mushroom picking when younger, remember one rather well to do woman approaching us at ~8am with her whippet to inform us “those bastard students have been already, you’ll be lucky to find any”
OpenC
Build a new state of the art hospital on Castle Leazes, which will be an easier sell to the public than a football stadium, then level the RVI and put the Saudidome there New hospital will have to be taller on average to fit in the space and will no doubt block light to Leazes Terrace alas

El Prontonise
Can we just rebuild the town moor over the stadium? Make it a living garden.
Miggys First Goal
Let’s just knock down the entire city centre and start again from scratch. Make the new stadium the centrepiece.

NG32
We could be really ambitious and build a new stadium over the train lines at central station, like they've done in Chicago and New York.
JonBez comesock
Could we not build a marshmallow 72,000 seater stadium on blyth beach ? ideas Fire breathing dragons serving sushi to tourists. Local blyth residents to dress up as clowns to sell match day programmes. Pitch made from basil ? Free entry for dentists and yoga teachers. Charge £1000 a seat to all Tory Voters Kids to get in for 7p if accompanied with a war hero Stadium could double up as a bouncy castle through the week for some sweet FFP gains. ponsaelius
The Town Moor actually is shit by the way. It's a waste of prime urban centre real estate while the city sprawls out west. It has limited biodiversity value. It is not a natural landscape, but also has limited recreation function. It doesn't even have many trees on it as this affects its use as grazing land, all the while the city is crying out for an actual 'green lung'. Its single point of value is that it is unique and a bit weird. But it unique because it's such a monumentally ridiculous use of land that is not equivalent probably to any other city on earth.
