Tooj
I think Allardyce would have your team looking something like this: ---------------------Given---------------------- New RB---Taylor-----Ben Haim---New LB ---------------Random African DM------------ ------------Parker-------------Emre------------ Owen--------------Viduka------------Martins Emre will be off, and with 3 quality wingers (Milner, Duff, N'Zogbia) it seems a shame to waste them Zoggy can play where Emre plays, in fact i think that position would suit him well, and Milner can play where Owen is positioned in that team, he's finding his shooting boots. This also leaves the option of a 442 if ever we need it, without committing to the formation indefinite. I've always been underwhelmed to say the least when Zoggy has been in the centre. Baggio
Thinking about it, I can see him playing Milner in the middle where Nolan plays for Bolton.
Keefaz
Tbh, I'd hate to see us use anything other than 4-4-2 at home or slight variations on that.
Dokko
Thinking about it, I can see him playing Milner in the middle where Nolan plays for Bolton. Milner's natural or 1st position was sitting behind the frontman in the centre, he could do that job although a furtherback central role may just be a bit much for him to command himself in there right now, although in the future why not? I wouldn't be so sure about Emre leaving. Allardyce loves making something out of players who have struggled for form or been in controversy

Young player trying to squeeze in with an awful manager, team mates, training and tactics. No doubt he can play there once a decent manager gets a hold of him. stozo
Ugh. I REALLY hope we don't play 4-5-1. I want attacking football.

YankeeToon
You try going from 4-4-1 to 4-4-3 during a game and you'll get madness I can see how that would be tricky...

The College Dropout
So with Big Sam looking favourite to come in, am I the only one to have doubts about the ability to fit Michael Owen into Allardyce's preferred 4-5-1 formation? Will he sacrifice his tried and tested set up just to accommodate him or will he sell him and find players to fit his system? Somethings got to give as we've seen Owen in a 4-5-1 formation for England and he was awful, it was also believed that Benitez wasn't 100% behind a deal to take him back to Anfield as he couldn't play in any other formation. Only he prefers 4-3-3... Davies up top of the three, Anelka and Diouf wide of him, all alteranting roles depending on the score or who they're playing. That's how they lined up against us. Off the ball this becomes a 4-5-1. BTW Houllier played 4-5-1 whith Owen and that was his most prolific spell. I think you mean 4-4-1-1 with Litmanen? The College Dropout
He'd either implement Owen properly or sell him...I'd be happy enough. I reckon he's going to sell Parker, and bring in Nolan and make him captain. Good move.

STM
If 4 5 1 is the theam i don't think Owen will play in the wide areas, more likely through the middle like Anelka for Bolton. So this: Given Solano Taylor Ben Hiem Bains Butt Parker Emre Milner Owen Martins This would improve Emre's game as he suits 451 better.
Shak
As is the case with most succesful teams these days, Allardyce likes to play a formation that is very flexible depending on the opposition and how the game is going. 4-5-1 could work for us with Owen up front, but only if we get a group of players capable of playing really good football. If we play long ball with Owen as he lone striker we'll obviously fail. We'd need someone like Kaka or Tevez to make it work tbh, someone who always provides an option for his defenders or midfielders to avoid them hoofing it long. Dyer is the closest we have to that player at the moment, so we'd need an upgrade. But Milner, Parker, Dyer, Emre, Duff and possibly even Martins are players that would benefit from a switch to 4-5-1. Not going to happen, but theoretically swap Owen for Berbatov and we'd be looking like a prime candidate for 4-5-1. Gonna be interesting to see what happens if Sam gets the job. Guest Knightrider
There is no real point trying to predict his lineup because if he does use the 4-3-3 formation, his favoured formation, then quite a few of our players look out of place, even some of our better ones. Yorkie
Safe to say that none of us know... but DAMN it'll be exciting if Sam does come in.
Yorkie
Personally, i think Milner would work in the position that Parker is in, in this formation: ---------------------Given---------------------- Hunt--------Taylor-----Ben Haim--------Baines ----------------------Appiah---------------- ------------Parker-------------Emre------------ Owen--------------Gudjonssen------------Martins Looks alot better But... Gudjohnsen CF? My Lord. You know, he actually played where Emre is most of the time for Chelsea, when that formation was used.
