While we did need to get rid of Bramble, I think the point .com were making was that by letting him go on a free we've written off the 4.5m quid we paid for him.

Think of the depreciation over the last 5 years though

Don't see what's so outrageous about what they've said about Titus to be honest. His only problem was a psychological one therefore it is possible to solve it and I'd have been confident of Sam doing so. If this makes me a moron then so be it - like I give a shit  - but I think we've missed out by not giving Bramble at least a year under Sam to see what he could do.

How many chances can we afford to give a player that's let us down so many times?

Ok. Lets give him another expensive many year contract and try to sell him immediately? i'm sure thatd work. Bidders from all around.

Or give him a 2-year extension or whatever, get Sam working with him: we see no improvement, flog in January or next summer.

1 more.

If he ends up with a decent coach who knows what he's doing then he'll come good, mark my words. :nods:

Yeah, but not exactly renowned for his defensive tactics, was he.

I think his confidence is shot to bits at Newcastle and beyond repair.

No matter how well he plays I think he always has at the back of his mind, the thought that the fans are sitting waiting for the mistake and that is what ultimately leads to the inevitable

I dont think any matter of coaching is going to get rid of that. I am not convinced he is mentally tough enough. Some blokes are but I dont think Titus is. Just to look at him, he doesnt, to me, have an aggresive "i will fucking show you" look about him. Looks a bit shy most of the time. Thats no criticism - its just his personality

I wish him well but I think it best all round for him to clear his head at new surroundings.

Cut ties. Throwing more money at that fat chunk of shit would be ridiculous, and NO-ONE would bid for him if he was still shit in 6 months.

He's dropped the same clangers for years now under successive managers, displaying a lack of the basics at times. If his contract wasn't up then maybe i'd agree it was worth a look until January, but to renew it? No thanks.

Fair enough, but the fact is that he's had his formative years under coaches that couldn't tell their arse from their elbow. Robster's right his confidence is shot and it would take something a bit different from the bog-standard: "go out and show them, son" type no-brain passes-for-psychology-in-football cliché to put that right, but isn't that what Sam specialises in? The potential is there, it's just as much a failing of this club as it is Titus himself, that it's not been brought out of him in his time here. I hope that he goes somewhere where he works under someone with a bit of nouse for a change and that he eventually comes good, I think it's definitely possible.

by the time you take in to account his signing on fee and wages for at least 6 months(at least 1-2 mil), against possible sale value of £1 mil max. it made the deal not very favourable when you look at the chances of success, when you consider the number of coaches and managers who have worked with him over the last 5 years.

Titus reminds me of that "death-eating" bloke on the Green Mile. Looks threatening, but simple and harmless.and wouldn't hurt a fly. Landed with his bum in the butter with a multi-k a week contract, but not really competent. Will wind though life with  a smile on his face.

The bottom line with Bramble was the Anfield 'reception' he got when he came on as a sub a couple of years ago. I have never seen a player so ironically cheered and laughed on to the pitch. That has to be worse than being booed on.

So what would you sooner do? Give him another £20k a week or whatever for the next two-years? No-one would ever pay money for him so get rid while we can.

Exactly - and how many other clubs have been sniffing round him over the past few years when he was under contract?

The interest from other clubs only began when it became clear his contract was to expire, and unlikely to be renewed.

Clubs may take the chance on him for nowt, but no-one would be daft enough to pay money for him!!!

The fact the lads at .com are intelligent enough to know that is what makes the article so poor imo.

Regarding Bramble, there was quite a few occasions when the opposition fans would laugh on the other side of their faces when he played a stormer.

I'm a bit disappointed that we got no money back for him but if we replace him with a free like Tal Ben Haim then it evens itself out.

I bet he plays a stormer for Portsmouth (or where ever he ends up) when he plays us.

Bramble was the butt of most jokes at Anfield. All started after he had a stinker in a 6-0 defeat there for Ipswich when they went down, and he made 3 errors for different goals. I remember when he came on at Anfield as a sub for Taylor when he agravated his dislocated shoulder, and the Liverpool fans gave Titus a sarcastic standing ovation when he replaced him singing, "One Titus Bramble".

...and this "mentally weak" person was then man of the match....
