SUPERTOON
I dont think anyone on here has seen him playing regular to comment once or twice is not enough. Bramble looked good once or twice.
Leazes1986
Just have faith in the managers judgement. I'd rather we signed someone like him for £2-3m under Allardyce's judgement, than spend big money on Curtis Davies like Roeder was looking like he would. Guest SwissMagpie
Curtis Davies,Rozenhal and Ben Haim will do it for me.+ Taylor so we will have good CB
Leazes1986
If we sign Rozenhal and Ben Haim we won't spend big on another cente back. I can only see us signing a 4th one of we let Ramage go, and it will probably be a cheap one as well.
Baggio
Without having seen this Rosenhal play, my biggest worry with Taylor, Ramage and possibly Ben Haim is the lack of any real pace at the back.
KaKa
I watched him against Wales and although he wasn't tested a lot he did look very athletic and he had pace too, which was nice too see especially as he is pretty tall. He got caught one on one with Bellamy out wide at one point, but did an excellent job of facing up to him and bending his knees and getting nice and low, and he was able to stay in front of him and Bellars had to settle for wacking it off his legs for a corner. He certainly looks like he has the physical tools which is good. I know someone will say Boumsong looked like he did too, but he looked faster and more athletic than Jean-Alain. Guest SwissMagpie
We released three CB so we need to sign three.and somebody needs to spend the Transfer kitty of Ashley.
Leazes1986
You need to remember though, the three we got rid of were shite. I can't see us signing 3 quality centre backs. Well we might sign 3 quality ones, but the biggest name one will probably be Ben Haim if we sign him. The other two will probably be from abroad for a few million each at the most. Yorkie
Maybe he's seen Taylor play and realised how average he is. Aye, possibly. He might also have realised how he's a young lad who's a bit raw, but with big potential and could go far. Just a hunch like, nothing to confirm. --- Didn't manage to see the Wales game. But Allardyce was there, effectively confirmed - the photo on dot.com looked genuine and it would make sense. Fingers crossed, anyway! Will be nice to just get someone through the door. Guest eyeball_tickler
Meanwhile, Toon boss Sam Allardyce has beaten off stiff competition from Borussia Dortmund to land £3.3m defender David Rozehnal. Dortmund have finally admitted defeat in the race for the 26-year-old Paris St Germain centre-back, who is set to sign a lucrative three-year deal at St James’ Park. Allardyce gave the green light to push through the £24,000-a-week deal after seeing Rozehnal in action for the Czech Republic against Wales on Saturday. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2007250806,00.html

Guest smoggeordie
Result! While it had come to an agreement with Dortmund for a few weeks, David Rozehnal finally should not rejoin the German club. "The transfer will not be done", declared yesterday Hans joachim Watzke, general director of the Borussia, to the newspaper Westfälische Rundschau. To explain this position turnaround, the German leaders invoke the higher bid of Newcastle United, very interested by the Czech defender of the PSG, club with which the Magpies very often did matter (transfers of David Ginola, Didier Domi or again Sylvain Distin) the latter years. The English trainer Sam Allardyce thus attended Wales Czech Republic, Saturday to Cardiff. The negotiations would turn henceforth around 5 million Euros, this that would allow the German Holy Paris to raise a little more its cash registers. "This is Paris that will take the final decision, but Newcastle did not say his last word", assured the one of the representatives of the player, Viktor Kolar. That the free translation, if anyone can do better feel free.

johnnypd
from using babelfish to translate a psg forum, it seems there's some debate about whether he is best as a defensive midfielder or a centre-half, with most thinking he is better in midfield. also quite a few who think €5m is letting him go cheap, while others who think he isn't great but would prefer to keep him as backup at least. they seem to think he is an elegant footballer with a bit of class who would work well with an aggressive partner. weaknesses are lack of pace and aggression, plus lapses in concentration. Great, a slower, less aggressive version of Bramble? Who like Bramble fancies himself as a bit of a play maker.

Guest johnson293
£3m transfer fee and £24,000 a week wages, its just not the Newcastle way! Thats the thing though - a lot of continental players are not on the massive wages that English clubs pay, so there really isn;t a need to throw huge wages at them, unless you have a lot of clubs competing for them. At least Sam seems to recognise this, and £24k a week is probably still a massive jump in wage for the lad. Hopefully it'll be a good deal all round. Hopefully if we get him he turns out to be a good player.
Coco
Dunno much about this lad, but, apparently he has 25 caps for the Czech Rep. To have been playing regular for them for the last 3 years means you can't be that bad. It would be very hard for him not to be an improvement on last season.
