Allardyce to try Dyer at Right Back..?

Recommended Posts

When the fuck are we going to draw the line with him and just get rid? It's fucking ridiculous the number of different positions we've now tried him in.

Central midfield? Can't tackle, doesn't create enough.

Right wing? Can't cross, leaves the right-back exposed.

In the hole? Doesn't score enough, doesn't do much at all really.

Up front? See above.

'Jack of all trades, master of none' springs to mind. Except he's never even been a Jack.

I was always a fan of Dyer in many ways but now I just hope we sell him and at least get some of the vast sums of money we've paid to him back, however small that sum is.

hmm

--------------------------Given---------------------

-------------Taylor----Ben Haim----Rozenhal----------

Dyer-----------------------------------------------------Baines

---------------Barton-----Butt------Emre---------------------

---------------------Viduka----Owen/Martins------------

Probably totally wide of the mark.

I have to agree with Baggio, as 80k pw for a full back is nuts. However, i can see him reverting to the role when we are on top in a game. If he can sort out his tackling and heading, he would be very dangerous playing in a 4-3-3.

O ye of little faith ... how dare thee doubt the Allah'dyce.

Leave him be. This is the kind of thing I have been looking forward to. A manager who might actually have ideas that are even more far reaching than the fans ideas.

How anyone can whing about this without waiting to see how it works, should it even happen is beyond me. I know you are all just dying for Glenn's ingenious pick the most senior players irregardless of anything, tactical nous.

Yikes.

Or on the other hand, he's committing the cardinal sin of management - playing people out of position.

I'm an Allardyce fan, very much looking forward to the future under him, but bloody hell, don't go on like he's superhuman.

KIERON DYER could play a surprise role for England tomorrow night — as a right-back.

And it is a position Dyer may play for Newcastle next season.

Dyer, 28, has been an attacking midfielder for most of his career.

But he had spells at right-back for Ipswich and made his England debut there against Luxembourg in 1999.

He may not start in defence in Estonia but Steve McClaren sees it as a useful option.

Dyer could use his pace to overlap David Beckham down the right-hand side.

Not a cat in hell's chance he'll play RB for England imo. Really hope we get shot personally.

I agree with you mate.

Dyer has been here how long now? 8 years? I still don't even know what his best position is, for him to try and be converted into a right back while picking up £80,000 pw is beyond a joke, if Allardyce was to give him away he'd save £8 million over the next 2 years which could be invested in a proper right back.

Sell him for whatever we can get.

McLaren should put Beckham at RB, with Bentley in front of him.  He seemed to do well in that sort of makeshift role in the World Cup when Lennon came on, and its not as if Estonia's going to give him a ton of problems, they haven't even scored a goal yet.

its up to Allardyce.

He has the legs to get up and down the line, and the stamina. Keegan played him there for England in a "wing back" role rather than a straight right back.

He doesn't have the tackling ability though.

And despite supporting him in the past for his "potential", I'm now tired of him saying how he's let someone down and will do better next time.

Get rid is what I would do.

Agree with all of that..

seems a bit late in his career to be teaching him all the defensive responsibilities.

Alot of older players revert to the back line, but they are usually ones with a decent footballing brain, ability to tackle or with discipline.

Im not convinced Dyer has any of those attributes. He certainly wont be worse than carr though. Cant see him being better than Solano though.

Interesting but doubtfull IMO.

Quality!  ;D

Suggested a while back that Sam could well look at using Dyer as a right back (can't be arsed finding my original post, but I was spot on - take my word for it!) and I reckon it's a decent idea - he's got pace and a good touch, will just need to work on the positional aspect, but Sam will be able to sort that out.

Even if Allardyce is thinking of this I cannot see Dyer being too happy with it, especially considering the fuss he has made in the past about playing right midfield. Going forward would not be a problem but I would't fancy his chances in defence. I would be more comfortable with a specialist right back, but I would take him there over Carr!
