Bakari Sagna was sheer class this season as Auxerre right back and also called to the French squad

French defenders & Newcastle just don't mix for various reasons. Remember this little lot:Charvet, Terrier, Goma, Domi, Dumas, Bernard, Distin & Boumsong. I may have missed some out, in fact I think our record with Frenchie's always ends up like a major cluster fcuk .

and Bernard (before his smack habit)

I didn't know this ! (I did suspect something along those lines though - pun intended !)

Domi, Dumas, Distin and Bernard (before his smack habit) weren't total flops..

"French defenders & Newcastle just don't mix for various reasons"

Domi - Went on strike:http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4161/is_20010114/ai_n9707773

Distin - Often whinged about playing left back & demanded a huge contract to stay

Bernard (1st time round) - Took the club to a FA tribunal to try & bugger off to West Ham & asked for the biggest % hike in wages the club has ever known*.

Dumas - I am sure he couldnt settle on Tyneside  & asked to leave

Not all flops on the pitch, we just dont mix.

tbh

i think sam wants rid of owen, thats why he has came out and stated that there is a release clause in owens contract.

not to turn this into another owen thread, but tbh we could get 2 decent players in for his wages.

"Bolton are set to sell midfielder Kevin Nolan, sparking the interest of Everton, West Ham, Middlesbrough, Manchester City and Sunderland"

if we do get the millions to spend from the owner we'll be after him.

If he wanted Owen out, he wouldn't have said:

"The speculation surrounding Michael will be resolved as soon as possible. You don't want to lose your leading goal-scorers."

when he first got the job. I think he definitely wants Owen to stay but knows Owen wants away.

"There's nothing I can do about it," said Big Sam. "We are benefiting from a release clause to get Joey Barton, but could suffer because of Michael's."

But with the Premiership's top clubs likely to want further proof of his fitness, Owen may stay put at Newcastle until at least January, when his release fee - which drops by 25 per cent a year - would stand below £9 million.

If this is the case i would sell Owen now, Parker wanted away and i think Owen wants away as well. Theres nothing we can do and with Man United in for a striker (according to Gill) they might bid for Owen.

I think its more him knowing he will go rather than hoping he goes.

Dumas was a flop. Not necessarily his fault but he was still a flop. How the fuck can a player who plays a handful of games then goes back to France not be a flop?
