Guest sicko2ndbest
Taylor, Davies plus 2 experienced centre halfs and we're laughing Davies: I need to move on By Mark Buckingham - Created on 21 Jun 2007 Curtis Davies has told Sky Sports News his reasons for wanting to leave West Bromwich Albion. The defender has asked to quit the Championship club following The Baggies' failure to clinch a return to the top flight. West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has rejected his captain's request and insists the player will only leave for a mammoth fee. But Davies feels another season spent at The Hawthorns will be detrimental to his hopes of breaking into England's senior squad. Outlining why he wants to leave The Baggies, the centre-half feels he needs to be playing in the Premier League to ensure his career continues to progress. "I stayed because of my loyalty towards Bryan Robson and my team-mates really," Davies told Sky Sports News. "It's a shame that, obviously, last year we couldn't be in the Premiership, but at the end of the day that's last year and it's gone. "I need to focus on this year and it is imperative that I play in the Premier League as I'm falling behind already. "I feel if I'm in the Championship again then it's going to be even harder to push towards the senior squad because I'm getting too old for the 21s. "It's a hard way to do it, but football is my life and I want to reach the highest heights of my career as possible. "The only way I can do it is by moving on." Guest eyeball_tickler
its a bit harsh on the fans that they got the the playoff final and a month or 2 later are on the verge of losing their best 4 players.
Tisd09
Would take him but not for a mammoth fee!
Guest Stephen927
He needs to get a move to a team like Everton imo, its doing no good to him being in the Championship.

Guest Guinness
Would definately take him here, but not for the fees being quoted when we were linked with him under Roeder. However judging by Allardyce's quotes about signing defenders so far it looks like we'll target experienced players.
Kimbo
He had Roeder written all over him, i don't think Sam will be interested though, he'll be after experiance. I hope that's the case.
Guest optimistic nit
the problem is there are two many desperate teams *cough west ham cough* who will pay silly money and wages, for these types of players. thats why bent is worth 17million. i think it would be smart business to stay out the running for players who are within the reach of teams that want to progress to the level of everton, bolton and spurs, who have the money but not the reputation, such as west ham, sunderland (apparently) and possibly city if their takeover goes through. It would actually be smarter business to go after players who are out of these clubs reach, not for financial reasons, but because these players wouldn't go there. gone are the days, where picking up relegated players and good championship players was the thing to do. now these are the types of players that wannabe european teams with large wallets offer thrice their actual value in a desperate attempt to increase their status. That said it appears only norwich are in for Billy Sharp. If we can get him for around 1mill-1.5, i say it would be worth a shot.
Guest SwissMagpie
i think we should gett him even at 8 million,we have money now.we cant buy only expierence defenders.we need to think for the future which expierenced defenders do u have on the market? Campbell wont leave pompey.Hyppia said he wont leave Liverpool.so who do u have??
Guest samtoonarmy
Curtis Davies is a good defender. However I don't think he's worth the £9m that WBA are wanting for him. I'd rather have Rozenhal for £3m than Davies for £9m.

toontownman
Unlikely. Can see him being "better than John Terry" wearing a spurs shirt next season.

Nate
Do we really want to pay £9m for someone who's only marginally better than Taylor, if at all? I certainly wouldn't want to play them together.

He's a Spurs fan no doubt his "ITK" sources tell him that Davis is a Spurs player, Costing them £3m and Davis will be on £5k a week

Guest Toon83
Curtis Davies is one of the most overrated players i have seen in a long time, and for West Brom to be asking £9m for him is a joke. He is a victim of the young english footballer hype, look at Gareth Bale, he is barely 17 and Spurs pay £10m for him, yet when you look at a player like Joey Barton for example we have picked him up for £5.5m, that just puts it all in perspective. And back to Spurs £10m for Berbatov, and £10m for Bale

toontownman
5/6m tops would be as much as Id want to pay, even thats too much really. Just shows how good a deal Everton got in Lescott, who Id rate as a better player, although few would have warmed to us scouting him this time last year. Myself included. Mowen
We'll be linked with him without doubt, but I get the impression from what he's said that Allardyce is happy with Taylor as a youngster to develop and wants some experience around him for the time being. Guest baggieboy
Baggies fan here (as you could probably tell) Personally, Davies is worth £5m/£6m tops, got overrated way too much by Barny and the english press who think he's the best thing since sliced bread. Is weak in the air, poor positioning, never looks comfortable with the ball at his feet (just hoofs it forward and hopes), his one fall back however is his pace, covers a few of his mistakes this way. Don't get me wrong, he's a decent player in the Prem, but didn't really stand out last year in the Championship. I think he'll be good in a few years, can't see him playing for England regularly though. Of course I do hope you buy him for around £7m+ but I can't see it happening, I'm sure we'll wrangle something out of Spurs or West Ham, a team who chuck their money around willy nilly.
