awww. poor Shay eh

--

Celtic’s decision to extend the loan of Newcastle United goalkeeper Fraser Forster is likely to ruin Shay Given’s chances of joining the Scottish giants.

Given wants out at Manchester City and was hoping to complete a dream move to Parkhead in January but news has emerged that the Hoops will keep Forster, who has impressed in his 13 league appearances.

Given cannot dislodge City number one Joe Hart and is far too good a goalkeeper to be sitting on the bench hence his want for a shift away from Eastlands but this latest occurrence looks to deny him a chance to return to the club where he developed during his youth days.

Majority of Celtic fans across their many forums really would like to keep him as far as I can tell.  The ones that don't are calling for Given/Keiren Westwood to be brought in.

All of them agree he can only get better.  His supporters argue there's more pressing needs and that he's not been helped by an unsettled back four this year. His detractors are jerks.

Not really a good news.  Sounds like Celtic has a chance to make the loan deal permanent.  Or else they shouldn't turn down the chance to sign Given.

He'll still be available in the Summer. Why bring in a second keeper when they already had Forster til the end of the season?

Don't think we'll let him go permanently anyways.

Don't think there's any chance of us letting a keeper of his age and potential go, especially with that part of the statement where we said we were focused on bringing local and foreign youngsters through and into the first team. It is a perfect opportunity to justify the claim.

What an absurd inference.

Seriously. He's clearly cheaper than Given, so they can save some money. It's a good sign as they obviously feel their not losing much quality by sticking with Forster.

Him or Krul will be gone within the next 3 transfer windows it's inevitable. Whichever one is second choice will be looking to move on, that would happen at pretty much any club with the potential both have. With Krul in hold of the shirt he's most likely to stay imo. As long as we get a good fee with future clauses it won't be too bad.

We have to agree to sell him first, which we will not.  You seem to think Celtic deserve to sign the guy.  He's our player.

This. I feel we were majorly spoilt by having Harper and Given for so many years. I'd be surprised if we can pull that off again, which is a shame. Can see one of them going after about a year of those 2 fighting for number 1. Assuming that will be next season.

No disrespect to Harper, but whoever's second choice here will be 10x the keeper he was at 27-28 when they're that age. Think it'll be Krul and Harper second-choice until he's about 39 before he retires, then we'll get random back-up keepers in the Carlo Nash, Stuart Taylor mould.
