beardsleymagic
The more I think about it, i'm not that against Smith signing as long as we continue to rebuild the defense. Smith will give us a bit more bite wherever he play's. It's time we got a little bit more nasty with teams. Last year all our best results were against the top teams, but we were $hite against the lesser teams (Smogs, Sheff Utd, Charlton ect). Much of this was down to Roeder's lack of motivational skills (it doesn't take much motivation against the glamour teams, but it's a testament to a managers skill how well he motivates his players against the lesser teams), but it was also down to us being, well sort of bullied out of games against teams fighting for their position in the league. Rob W
unles we convert him to a CH I'm not sure why we spent £ 6 mm on another forward TBH
Guest alex
unles we convert him to a CH I'm not sure why we spent £ 6 mm on another forward TBH He's versatile, he can play wide right and in the middle plus upfront. If Martins and Owen are injured we got little or no movement upfront and if Viduka is crocked too we'd have Shola as the only forward at teh club. Even if he wasn't versatile in terms of being able to play in midfield he'd push Shola down the pecking order and it means we're actually adding some strength in depth to the the side. The £6million is more or less the Dyer money anyway.
Tisd09
I am easy on the Smith transfer but just thought he is a better forward than Shola, fitter than both M Owen, Luque and Viduka at the moment so may well be 2nd striker for the START of the season. I would not bet against Martins/Smith as the front 2 v Bolton in a few weeks. Chances are Owen will break down some more this season and I see Smith as a better player than Shola so I think he would get more games upfront than we give him credit for. At the moment Viduka and Martins would be starting formation then Owen or Smith depending on who we are rotating. I think Smith will get a surprising amount of games upfront next season. Paulie Walnuts
can't see Smith joining as a second choice - could a forward be on his way out?

Guest alex
Fucking hell man Are people fucking thick? Even if he doesn't start every game, he'll be miles nearer the first team than he was at Man Utd. He was going to be nowhere near getting a game regardless of whether Tevez arrives (which looks probable imo) this season. And James is right, he's replacing Dyer (in terms of the squad if not a like-for-like swap). He's a good player too imo. I think he'll surprise a few people with his ability. I think people have forgotten where we finished last season and the fucking state this football club was in. Who the fuck are people expecting us to sign? Guddy and Deco would want Europe, we can't offer that. Smith is exactly the type of player that Sam gets the best out of. Why not let the player step on the pitch before we slag him, eh? Fuck sake. Guest Coubury
Smith is a forward , but not a striker. 10 goals at best a season (tho his most was 15 i think). He'll work harder than anyone and do whatever it takes for the team. He has a good relationship with Viduka as a player and person , i think he'd be a great addition for us. Man United aren't the team for him , but Newcastle /Big Sam's style will hopefully suit his agressive way of playing.
Guest Invicta_Toon
Oh jesus wept. We're throwing £6m at a player that specialises in running around snarling, and isn't good enough for our first team. T'rrific. we paid £5m for Barton not

West Ham I believe, though that doesn't strengthen my case at all to be fair. Morally perhaps, but in terms of talent he's streets ahead of the other CM's at the club.
