Allardyce - Dyer replacement revealed Thursday

Recommended Posts

call me crazy.

but does anyone else think smith could get the armband?

im sure sam said the other day he hadnt yet made his choice, and it could go to a new signing?

That is a very good, but very scary shout.

The defence picks itself, but I certainly can predict any of the team selections versus Bolton.

what is that defence then?

Right now, it is:

Carr Rozehnal Taylor Ramage

Though I'd expect it to be

Carr Rozehnal Taylor New LB

by Bolton. Four established defenders, plus another on the bench, plus Geremi backing up Carr. We cant revamp the whole defence overnight, and the established Carr will survive for now. Nothing anyone on here says will change that.

And that is a significant improvement on last season, like Isaid, we cant go from poor to great overnight, there has got to be some in between stage, in which Carr will play a part.

Carr Taylor Rozenhal Ramage

is a fucking disgrace

But still better than last season. Do you have no concept of improvement?

Doesn't say anything about signing a player tomorrow in the BBC article does it?

No. People heard him say it though...

Different interviews. Sam may have felt he said too much, and had more time to think about what he was going to say second time around.

Cant be Smith anyways as Oliver has already told us "next signing will be an experienced central defender who will not be costing the club a fee."  :):)

Heskey is a better striker than Smith?

Its like saying Ameobi is better than Henry...

How's that? Both graft, both work hard, both put themselves about a bit, but Heskey is the more powerful, and even a better goalscorer.

Heskey is basically the worst finisher we could find, let alone the fact that he's going to cost us at least 4-6m, and can play in only one position wich is a striker..

Smith used to be, and i believe he still can be an amazing player, last season for him was all about recovering from that nasty injurey he picked up, and since SAF was using him as a DMC most of the time his striking mentallty was a bit down, but he's strong, he can finish and is good in the air, and i really admire the fact that he can fight for every ball thats there to win..

An amazing player?

What the hell is it with those Leeds "youngsters" from their brief golden age? Utterly, utterly overrated in a team full of cloggers and hackers, bar of course the two extremely good centrebacks they had at the time. It took a few years for Danny Mills to be found out for the utter garbage that he is (God knows how he played in a World Cup for England), it took more years of Bowyer doing f*** all for him to be considered a poor footballer (and there are still plenty of fans wholl swear that hes a good player since he gets "stuck in") - now all there remains is for the dire Smith to prove thats hes the mediocre player hes proven to be over the past few years - somehow.

Its perfectly acceptable to have Smith as a backup player, but not for £6mill. Even if he does provide something slightly different, theres no hiding that hes pretty poor at several aspects of the game that will hinder him in any position that he plays in.

Hes s*** compared to Parker for example, a commmited, hard tackling player who plenty of our fans wanted to see the back of because his style of play was holding the team back. Were going to spend practically the same amount on getting a poor man's replica who has the ability to also play s*** up front.

I really hope Big Sam knows what hes doing with this one, and yes, I know hes a smart/professional success of a coach. No manager is perfect, they all make mistakes even the best ones, and im sure plenty of them buy players without having seen them as much as they should have - Wenger for example was heavily interested in Jenas at a time when 95% of the Geordie population considered Jenas utter s***. Sam seems to be under alot of pressure to bring players in - this could be a signing that hes making out of desperation, and it could be one that holds us back in the same way the Duff signing made a negative impact on Roeder's tenure here - ie couldnt drop him because he was "his" signing, poor form from an overrated player, relatively large amount of money spent when there wasnt much in the kitty (probably didnt even know how much was available), etc etc.

I'll back Smith as soon as he dots the i's and crosses the t's. But until then, im going to pray heavily that were not spending £6mill on him.

Im pretty shocked by some of the shite on here tonight. Big Sam is building a squad. He will want players with different attributes to play in different games. Bringing Smith in gives us different options, especially away from home. He is a better manager than we have had recently. He looks at the big picture and isn't so stupid to think that every single signing has to improve our best 11. He will pick different players in different formations against different teams. Smith will fit into one of these systems, proberbly in games away from home and against some of the better sides at home.

The days of 442, pick your best 11 are long gone. It will change game by game, and Smith will be an important player.

If a player of Smith's quality becomes genuinely important to us, we are going to be struggling with the whole "top 10" thing.

Someone should tell Premiership Champions Manchester United about that.

That the same Premiership Champions Manchester United that are selling him because he isnt good enough?

Do you think we can attract squad players that ARE good enough to play for Man United like?

Nope, I don't think we are in a position to be signing players in positions we are already well stocked in either.

I give up.  Honestly, the manager has defensive targets identified and he's replacing a midfielder/attacker that he's sold.  I just think it's so much the common sense thing to do, and yet it's completely beyond the grasp of some of you.

I'm only up to here in the thread but if anyone manages to argue against this i'll be surprised.

It may come up in the next 4 pages but has anyone considered the value of Smith in a 433? He could play in 4 attacking positions in our manager's favourite formation. Proabably not even considered by the experts.

Shit compared to Parker? Fuck off.

I agree £6m is too much but he offers much more than Parker has for years.

Could be Boa Morte like. I know theyve only just bought him, but if it were to be a west ham player i cant really think of anyone else it could be to fill that area. I'll be praying for Gudjohnsen.
