Guest gggg
So the BBC say we've pulled out and Skysports.com says we're in talks with him. I think the BBC story is more likely. I don't see the need for Baines if we're getting a left back tracked by Liverpool, Inter, Barca and Chelsea.
Teasy
Spending £13 million on three dedicated left backs (to add to the one we already have, all be it a crap injury prone left back) is pretty lop sided squad building all things considered wouldn't you say Ian W? Exactly, I can believe that we were keeping our options open by going for both Baines and Enrique at the same time. But once the Enrique deal came off I'm sure we'd drop our interest in Baines.. Especially with Dragutinovic all but signed.
stozo
The only thing you could say about 3 left-backs is Dragutinovic can play CB and Enrique can play left wing.
STM
Everton have bid 11m for Lucho Gonzales? This would mean they have 16m to throw around, something doesn't add up.

In some ways yes, but both Enrique and Dragutinovic sound quite versatile, so more than the LB position is covered. And we've signed midfielders and a striker as well, so it's not that lopsided. Guest gggg
But why play Enrique on the left wing just to accommodate Baines if Enrique is the better player? We've got plenty of natural left wingers so i dont see the point.

fredbob
I haven't seen any single reputable quote bout any 3 of the transfers, the only one that i have seen is the "the financial oppurtunity is too great for me to turn down" but i think thats still wishy washy, it was the only quote on the entire story and nufc werent mentioned by name once. I'm still reeling from the enrique news, it just isnt sitting right with me its happeed way too quick and again with it being "confirmed" on the Villareal site it seems strange that nothing official from Sam or nufc has been said. Baines again isn't sittin very pretty with me either, i think its common knowledge that he's been available for a while, hes been in talks with the Scum and nufc didint attempt to intervene once, the timing doesnt seem right with what seems to be the apparent stone cold signing of enrique. Why would we plunge £6m on a young enlgish lb if we're already paying £4m on a young spanish lb??? Somethings not right
EthiGeordie
People think big any big team needs two solid LB. So if we want to aim for a top for we need two. Bains can be good for home games as enreque is a bit solid he can be useful for away ones. But I fear for Bains deal tobe honest since Everton is his boyhood team. Guest Verlaine
Both Newcastle and Everton have had bids accepted for Baines and he is holding talks with both clubs according to skysports.com Link Sounds like nonesense to me. Why would we go after Baines when we've almost completed the transfers of Dragutinovic and Enrique? We have our top class experienced left back and top class young left back sorted right there. There's no need for Baines.. 352? What? The 3 part of that all left-backs?

But I fear for Bains deal tobe honest since Everton is his boyhood team. not sure i agree with that, dont get me worng but i have always thought that the spine of the team was the area which needed to be stuffed with quality, quality specialised players (ie players who play down the flanks) are pretty rare, so to beef up one side without even cosidering the other seems a bit iffy
toontownman
Sam and Ashley have snapped. "You whinging bastards want left backs, heres some fucking left backs!" Strange.. surely at most we would be signing two from Enrique/Drago and Baines? But as mentioned, whilst unlikely, its possible the N'Zog to Fulham links might be true, with Diop coming the other way. All shall be revealed over the next couple of days, although Id expect the Baines deal to be the most doubtfull of the lot.

Dragutinovic and Enrique already equal two left backs though. One a fast athletic young talent and the other a tough experienced international. Which is a hell of a lot better then having two young left backs IMO.
toontownman
"It is believed Everton are favourites to land Baines ahead of Newcastle because the player is a Toffees fan and would love the chance to play for his boyhood heroes." Is he? Thought he was a red, "through and through"... "As a boy I supported... Liverpool. As a local lad I used to watch from The Kop when Robbie Fowler was making his name. I started out at Liverpool's Centre of Excellence and although it was disappointing when nothing came of it, I was lucky that both Wigan and Wolves wanted to sign me." http://www.fourfourtwo.premiumtv.co.uk/page/TheBoys/0,,11442~587312,00.html Crappy journalism tbh. MidfieldGeneral
Personally I don't think there is any truth at all in the Baines story. I think someone on the inside has leaked half a story, "were in talks with a left back, under 21 international, highly rated, 6 million, blah, blah, blah" and someone in the press has put 2 and 2 together and came up with Baines. Let's face it, if a supposed ITK came on here and gave that info, most other people would guess at Baines too.

KaKa
Everton clinch £5m Baines deal Everton will sign Wigan full-back Leighton Baines tomorrow in a £5m deal. Wigan turned down an initial offer of £4m plus midfielder Andy van der Meyde but have accepted the improved offer. Everton, who drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in a friendly yesterday, also hope to make Porto midfielder Luis Gonzalez the club’s £11m record signing this week after selling striker James Beattie to Sheffield United. If Gonzalez chooses Everton ahead of Juventus, the deal would top the £8.6m Moyes paid Crystal Palace for Andy Johnson last year. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premiership/article2199404.ece Thread title needs altering methinks.
