a loan move will do a world of good for him. he really needs to get games under his belt and it would be a bit unfair on the lads career to keep him here when he could be out gaining valuable experience.

Gretna have signed French defender Aurelien Collin and claim they are close to signing a striker from the Premier League in England.

Collin, 21, has been on the books of Sedan, Amiens and Real Mallorca, without making a senior breakthrough.

Manager David Irons said: "He impressed us in training and he will be a great addition to the squad.

"There were several other clubs interested in Aurelien, so we are delighted that he has chosen Gretna."

In a short statement from the club, Gretna confirmed they will sign a striker from the English top flight "within the next week", but did not identify their target.

Andy Carroll? Makes sense if it is (on loan of course)

I drove past Andy Carroll on the Tyne Bridge the other day. He was driving a top of the range range rover with a personalised plate.

I know footballers are overpaid ffs, but a £70K car for a 19 year old reserve/junior player not even on the brink of breaking into the first team. didnt Robbie Fowler have an old escort when he was first picked for England!

Anyway a long loan should make or break him.

According to .com:

Cardiff City have again gone public with their desire to sign Newcastle striker Andy Carroll on loan - a fact perhaps not completely unrelated to their poor showing in front of goal on Saturday when beaten 1-0 by Stoke City.

The Bluebirds and Hull have confirmed their interest in the teenage forward, with another ten or so un-named Championship clubs having also registered their interest privately in Toon.

Change of thread title?

how unusual, was talking about Carroll's wheels in the pun just last night. Cost him £55k according to an ITK and he's on £6k a week

6k is enough I suppose when you're paying for it monthly.

I live near Doncaster and all the Rovers' players have crappy old Skodas, Fiestas and Fiats apart from a couple who have Mercs and one has a Lincoln Navigator.

Preston North End have secured the signature of Newcastle United prospect Andy Carroll on a six-month loan deal.

The 18-year-old has been chased by a number of clubs over the summer break but former North End favourite Sam Allardyce did a favour to one of his former clubs by allowing the 6'4 striker to move to Deepdale.

Carroll has been described as a 'young Duncan Ferguson' by Newcastle United fans, he's made seven substitute appearances for the Magpies, making his debut in the UEFA Cup at home to Palermo.

The rookie striker will take the No.21 shirt at Deepdale and will go straight into the squad for tonight's match at home to Morecambe.

Get in there. My "other team" in the English league because I have family down there/have been to see them a few times. All the more reason to keep in touch with how they do this season.

Good move for him, because he should be at the right end of the table.

This is the sort of thing a "big club" can do as well, loan out their promising youngsters to decent teams, hopefully we'll still see one or two more head out on similar deals.

GEORDIE striker Andy Carroll has joined Championship side Preston North End on a loan deal until January.

The 18-year-old striker has linked-up with Paul Simpson's men and could make his debut in their League Cup tie against Morecambe at Deepdale on Tuesday night.

Big Andy burst onto the scene last season after a string of impressive displays and goals for United's Reserves and Juniors.

The Gateshead-born forward made his senior debut against Palermo in November and has been tipped by many to become a star of the future on Tyneside.
