  1. Pearson sent Allardyce's team out with Allardyce's game plan - the events of the week make no difference whatsoever to the result. All it shows for me is that didn't sack him early enough - after Wigan at least.
  2. Not a bad point but spoiled by forgetting Keegan trophies Vs Dalglish trophies.
  3. The answer to most of such questions is the same : Peter Beardsley.
  4. Possibly - I just had to express my contempt for the twat.
  5. Just because you're a typical manc/scouse (depending on who's better at the time) Irish glory-hunting shitbag doesn't mean you know anything about football.
  6. I completely disagree that he was/is right for us. Bolton were and he is trying to make us a team whose whole ethos is "to stop the other team from playing and then then sneak it". It might be cliche-tastic but that approach is complete at odds with what I believe the majority of fans want and with the club's tradition and history (for what its worth).
  7. And what evidence would Allardyce have that he has any clue that he could produce such a plan? Bolton. I said Top level. Bolton were no better than us under Souness/Roeder. They have an infrastructure light years ahead of ours though. We've been backwards off the pitch since Keegan. Even that great trainer Laurent Robert said that our training was way behind the times. I don't get what you mean by "infrastructure" though. I think most teams now have something along the lines of the backroom staff which is all well and good but if it means a s*** team I don't care tbh. Any new manager would bring their own training regime so the suggestion to lay the groundwork with Sam doesn't really work.

  10. Can those who dismiss a relegation fight so easily name the teams they think we have any chance of beating? I got stuck after Bolton and Boro.

I've asked this before but did his time at Bolton show any evidence of gradual, planned progression? No - once they reached a decent-ish level he had slightly up or down years depending on injuries/luck just like us with Roeder/Souness and being harsh Bobby.

That makes it sound personal which it may or may not be - being honest I despised Bolton and everything they stood for but was conned by the argument that Allardyce would do it differently with better players and more money at a bigger club. I still don't hate the man but I have no time for his "management".

    Yes or No?

a much, much better manager. not sure about the money he's spent, but it's probably quite a lot. Thats the point - we have to settle for the best English manager around (allegedly) and they went out and got someone better - thats the crux. None of us who think Allardyce is wrong would replace him with Redknapp or Hughes - why shouldn't we think of Ericsson's league?
  14. Not as high as NUFC under Roeder the other year. On topic I've seen us go to Chelsea with half decent sides and lose 4 or 5 nil. Saturday will be a debacle. yes, thanks to a final few good months, we just finished above them. then we went backwards and they went forwards. You mean the next season when they finished one place higher - whoopy f****** doo. Add: With exactly the same number of points - progress indeed. bolton finished 7th and we finished 13th. did you know that? Yes but they went 8th -> 7th with the same points. We had a nice guy out of his depth with a horrendous injury list and no transfer backing. They had a "top man in his field" with a settled squad who finished the season even worse than us.

    Yes or No?

Can those whose argument consists of a club being changed from top to bottom and thus a new manager needing time to make any positive difference please explain the difference between us an Man City?

  17. I've been at Stamford Bridge when we've lost 6-0, I hope that ones not beaten. I was there then - I think there's a tendency recently for teams to slacken off and save themselves (see Man U today) which will probably save us.

  19. Too young to really know about MacDonald but otherwise that sums up my view.
  20. 74 final on tv - I was 10 and cried my eyes out. Mackems play-off But overall the 98 final - the only team ever to play for pens on the thursday night and not change that plan even when behind - thanks Kenny.

    Martins' Worth?

I'd envisage a couple of pacey players being signed as well - I don't think Sam is daft.

    Martins' Worth?

Agreed and No. I would still try and replace him and Shola in Jan though I wouldn't be "unhappy" if Martins stayed. As someone else said for an Anelka or a Gudjonsen I'd take any token amount for Martins.

    Martins' Worth?

Saving us from relegation was a massive achievement to me at least. Was we supposed to get us into Europe playing alongside Sibierski, with a disjointed midfield and an even dodgier defence behind him? Yes he deserves a bit of credit for that - but some of the posts in this thread suggest that that has launched him into the £20m+ bracket which is what I'm objecting to a bit.
