Pardew, apparently, learns from his mistakes so we can all rest easy. We won't see the square pegs shit like Everton any more...

Wouldn't that just be a 6 week break?

Top work sir.

Yup. Sad, but true. It's quite naive to suggest that there are no major health and safety issues surrounding standing, even 'safe standing' models. Would love to see it during a derby game, for example. Such as? Would love to see a return to standing areas but unfortunately it seems English football has been sterilized beyond return. The main issue is that the second standing is mentioned, those in power think "HILLSBOROUGH, HILLSBOROUGH, DEATH!!" without actually considering the proposals. Bingo.

Er, nope. Care to back any of that up? You can't. You're not to fault though, given that this story has been reported in the wrong light by various media sources. Just look at the title of this thread. Nobody is calling for a 'return of terraces' so that makes this argument pointless. The bill to introduce standing as well as the FSF are showcasing the safe standing model from Germany, in specific the one that allocates everyone a seat and has a railing. How the media has confused this with terracing only goes to show their complete ignorance on the subject. This is safer than all seater stadiums. Why? Because you actually have a barrier infront of you preventing falls. Claims are made that currently people standing infront of seats is unsafe. So why, when this proven method is available, are these people left as 'safety risks' and not offered a safe choice? Don't say they shouldn't stand in the first place, that won't stick. If thousands of people are stood at every game that takes place on the weekend then doesn't that tell you something? Fans want it, it can be done safely, and the bottom line is, safe standing or not, people can and will continue to stand at football. Let's give these people a safe choice, which works out perfectly for everyone. You can find out more about the safe standing model here. The FSF are going to take an example of safe standing to football clubs all over the country to showcase this model and dispell this myth of 'terracing' being brought back. Lastly here's an article from the Guardian that's actually balanced and knows what it's talking about: click. Wow, couple of things: I've signed the petition and would love safe standing to be brought into Premier League games. Unfortunately it's never going to happen and the powers that be who make the decisions will hide behind health and safety issues and the threat of litigation should anything happen. You've given a very good argument for the return of safe standing and I agree with every word, but as others have said, what the fans want is pretty much irrelevant. It's not happening - more's the pity.

Massive Health & Safety issues and possible legal issues if anything were to happen. Won't happen. Ever. Move along.

Newcastle United vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers, 02/04/11 - Pre-match Thread

Tempted to bet against us when we go to Liverpool and Chelsea like. Almost nailed on to lose. Sadly predictable. -
Checking some stats from the weekend and only one of our 22 crosses into the box was successful. Sol Campbell made 6 clearances in the game, none of them successful. Boom!! Beg your pardon, Campbell made 7 unsuccessful clearances, not 6.

Yep. Can't afford to lose as the panic would really set in. It must already be a bit fragile after the run of results we've had recently. -
Looks very old and slow nowadays. It's costing us goals and games. Forster or Krul needs to start next year. Harper very much #3.

That's fucking crackers too then. I'm assuming he passed a fitness test before the game? What the fuck's going on man? Honestly...

Was it the same injury that forced him off today? Should have just played our back-up lef....

I'm not singling Hughton out. I can't fathom out how Pardew continues to pick Lovenkrands at all, let alone on the wing. Hughton also played Guthrie out of position on the right of midfield and persisted with it. I'd forgotten about that one.

Very fine line between 'Experienced' and 'old'. His lack of agility is costing us goals more and more regularly. Needs replacing this summer. For good this time though.

The stuff I cut had no bearing on the mistakes I was talking about. Tactics, starting XI's and subs. You might not feel it has a bearing on what you originally referred to, and that's fair enough - it was afterall your point - but if you're looking at whether he displayed capabilities of learning/progression as a manager overall, it still counts. (Binning Perch and Smith from the starting line-up's isn't good management it's simply having the power of sight) Like starting Ranger over Loven? Or keeping our established RB Simpson in his correct position when our LB gets injured? Oh... Not picking the players who regularly let you down should be a given at any level of management. Playing Simpson out of position is barmy whoever does it. Not quite sure where you're going with this tbh.

He couldn't give a shit man. He's known he's a dead man walking since the WC and is just sitting tight until he gets sacked. At £6m a year I'd do exactly the same tbh.

Very similar to Hughton in that respect. He's now got 2 weeks to come up with something for Wolves who are on a bit a roll. Saturday 3pm kick off means I'm not too hopeful. Our 3 (winnable) remaining home fixtures are scarily close to the Boro, Pompey and Fulham fixtures we had at the end of the season we went down. Sincere question - to which mistakes do you refer? Negative tactics against shit opposition and dreadful use of subs were the main 2 annoyances for me. Some of his starting XI's were a bit too but not all of that was his fault. I'm not having a major pop at Hughton here either btw but he did make mistakes and didn't seem to learn from them.

That's the badger.

Still banned, innit? Ah yeah. Un-nail that one then.

Barton moved inside one and R. Taylor to start. Nailed on.
