  1. Thought Hughton was very diplomatic in that short MoTD interview. Acknowledged what had happened with Barton without slagging Henry, McCarthy or Wolves off and mushrooming it into something it's not. That said, I've got an inkling Henry will get nailed to the fucking wall when they come up here...

    Joey Barton

He's getting booked purely because he's called Joey Barton. Had he come out wearing a different shirt with a different name and number on the back and played exactly the same he wouldn't have 3 bookings to his name now. It fucking stinks tbh.

    Sunderland...

Thought Gyan looked decent in the WC but certainly nothing spectacularly good. If they're spaffing big money on him then that's fair enough but he's no better than Jones and there's no guarantee that he'll work in this league. Zog would be a good signing for them too but they'd just be another stepping stone until a bigger club come in for him. Still think they'll finish above us but only by a few points.
  4. Were they all from open play too? I can't remember him taking a penalty so I would think so. I assumed Midds was asking how many were from set pieces. No, no - just impressed that he's finished 19 chances from open play rather than scoring a few pens to boost his tally a bit.

  6. If we beat Blackpool and get one or two more bodies in before Tuesday then I'll be optimistic about the club and where we're headed. It shouldn't have needed relegation to sort us out but that's the way it's worked out. I'll never get too carried away because it'll only take a couple of injuries or bad defeats to change the mood. They need to continue to put things right though. Shouldn't rest on their laurels.

    Strongest Eleven

Surely it would depend on who and where we were playing? Against a mid-table side at home (the average) I'd go: Krul Perch (S. Taylor if he's here) Williamson Colo Enrique Routledge Barton Tiote Gutierrez Ben Arfa Carroll
  8. I don't doubt that he's better than what we've got, I just don't see what sitting on our bench will offer that sitting on the Spurs bench doesn't. He'd be second choice here, behind Carroll. At Spurs he'd have Defoe, Pav and Crouch plus A. N. Other in front of him once they've spent their CL cash. He wouldn't even be on the bench man. His choice isn't Spurs bench or our bench - it's our bench with a few starts, or not even named for the Spurs bench. He's so far down the Spurs pecking order he may as well move and play here.
  9. Don't think anyone's saying it would be a poor signing as such, more the fact they're questioning why he would come in the first place. I'm probably making it up, but I'm sure in the not too distant past, a fair few on here turned their noses up at the idea of getting him. Maybe so but for us, atm, I think Keane would be a fantastic signing and I'm pretty sure most Newcastle fans would love to have Keane in the squad.

  11. If this all comes off, and it's a long way from that atm, then I think Keane will get plenty of games. If he doesn't start then he'll be on the bench and the first guy thrown on by Hughton to get us a goal. Chances are that we'll lose Carroll to injury, suspension or Her Majesty's Service from time to time so he'll see plenty of the ball. He's better than what we've got and would be another player who can turn a draw into a win.
  12. We've certainly bottomed out and have gradually began to put things right both on and off the pitch. The squad seems much more positive and united. We've benefitted from a bit of stability by having Hughton in charge and we've scored goals and won games. The finances appear to be under control and Ashley is running a much tighter ship financially. The board appear to be learning from past mistakes and things are looking up. The clincher for me though is the mood in the stands. 08/09 was a fucking spiteful season for us and going to the games was getting to be a bit of a chore. The fans were dreading the games and the atmosphere was awful and negative. Last season put the smile back on the faces of the crowd, the mood changed and we began to enjoy things again, the momentum is there now and a good window will lead to bigger crowds and things growing again.... This club is huge and it's like a juggernaut - if we manage to get it right on the park this season then we'll carry that momentum and in a couple of years we'll be right up there competing for Europe again. It's all in place for this club to be a success with a bit of investment but we all know it could go pear-shaped at any time.
  13. Don't be gloating ffs!
  14. He has been out on loan to Carlisle and Falkirk but I'd agree totally with that. Keepers get better with experience and he should have been playing every week for the last few years.
  15. So how long would you give Harper then? You've mentioned the first and third at Man U, if he's still letting in goals like that on a semi-regular basis then when do you make the change? Not being arsey btw, just wondering when your patience would break. I've already said I'd like to give him til Xmas but wouldn't be frightened to bring Krul in sooner if need be.
  16. Surely you can understand why though? For all Krul's faults he seems very agile and saves shots that Harper simply can't anymore. Harper isn't getting any better, younger or quicker so it's natural to look to the next in line.
  17. I was there '88 wasn't it ? 89/90 according to .com Still a shite record all the same. Don't fancy our chances if Carroll's out though.
  18. One's got a future, the other's got a past... Krul's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. He lacks a bit of composure and needs games to develop his decision-making. He's a bit rash. On the other hand Harper is getting older and slower and is conceding goals I'd expect a younger, more agile keeper to save comfortably. The ideal situation would be to attach Harper's head onto Krul's body. I'd give Harper til about Xmas to prove he's still up to it and look to bring in Krul more as the season goes on.
  19. Only one win in the last 50 years at Molineux? Long overdue a win here tbh. Fuck it, 1-2.
  20. Now that Spurs have qualified for the MEGA-SUPER-HAPPY-JACKPOT-LEAGUE they've got a bit of cash to spend and if they get a striker or 2 coming in then Keane will move on. It might be to us or it might not be. Let's see what happens
  21. £18 to watch a non-league game? Fuck me. Recession? What recession?
  22. Nah it's fine, this fucking kid can play.
  23. Well suited to playing in this league then.
