Aye but that's a local derby with the winners getting to host Man U (probably televised) in the next round. Blackburn v Sunderland with both teams leaving loads of players out was never going to get many going to it tbf.
-
I actually enjoyed the game tonight. It was cagey and tight but I don't need a game to be helter-skelter to enjoy it. Two good teams working hard and trying to force a mistake from their opponent is just as exciting as a sloppy, error-strewn 3-3 imo. There you go.

Just sent my congratulations to an Evertonian mate of mine, got this back: 'Cheers mate. Shithouse injured, torres shagged out and that little cunt suspended into the bargain. Happy days!' Says it all. Fuck off Liverpool.

Shouldn't be allowed anywhere near football coverage. Absolute twats.

All it comes down to for me is supporting the club. That's all we can do. If we got Ashley out, who's to say someone better would come in? I respect fans talking passionately about the club, but at the end of the day we're just fans. My honest opinion is that the best thing to do is to support the club as best we can and hope for the best. I'm well aware that many will disagree with me, but I can't see any other way. Spot on.

Had Given (and his lawyer) kept his mouth shut do you think we'd have got more or less than £6m for him?
-
Given's actions pushed the eventual fee downwards don't forget. Had he done things differently then we'd have sold him for an awful lot more than we were forced to settle for.
-
I thought it would pan out that Kinnear (or whoever) walked and Wise would step into the gap and become boss. Never really envisaged Wise walking out but there you go.
-
It's an interesting story. Wise is certainly not the villain he's made out to be but there is obviously problems with job descriptions overlapping. Wise walking might not be the worst news in the world if it means proper managers take us seriously again.
-
Have you looked at the finances thread? Not defending him as such but Ashley didn't buy us to be a rich mans toy. He bought us to be a business, we will want to make a profit one way or another and at the moment we are still trying paying for our previous reckless spending which despite what certain people will say simply wasnt going to last forever before we were in a hole so deep we wouldn't have managed to get out. At what point will we be free of the previous mess? From what I gather the enormous wage bill was the main crux of the problem. Getting shot of the players who don't contribute and/or earn upwards of £3.5m a year will be the start of it. Unfortunately it could take quite some time imo.
-
Definitely a winnable game. We're lucky in as much as they're down to the bare bones themselves and we might have one or two back for it. We're due a win and I think we'll get it. Losing doesn't bear thinking about like...

Steady Smiffy still to add to that lot. -
Seeing as we sold 2 players who had no intention of playing for us again and bringing in 3 who did then I'd say we've strengthened. Getting players back from injury will be the key to staying up, not signing about 5 players in January imo.
-
We won't know if that's the case until 14 games from now. End of thread. So if we stay up, successful transfer window then? And if we go down? I think he means the end result will have justified the means. If we go down it's a disaster. Ashley's gambled and we'll find out in May if he's won or not. Until then there's precisely fuck all any of us can do to influence things other than giving whoever plays in black & white 100% support in the last 14 games. It's out of our hands.
-
We've made about £8m (ish) I think. Club safe for another year then yeah? No idea mate. Just answering the question. Time will tell I suppose. Ashley's certainly gambled on us being good enough to stay up and I hope he's right.
-
We've made about £8m (ish) I think. Depends on just how much we got/will get for Given, of course. We're still not quite clear on that one. Can't see it being an astronomical amount though. £7m absolute tops imo.

Just bumping this. Lots of angry people out there by the sounds of things. Might be an idea to get a few things off your chest?

I highly doubt that. From some people. -

Where did those two loan signings go?? Which ones were they again? Not been in long from work and I'm just trying to work out what has and hasn't happened. I'll be fucked if I'm wading through the last 54 pages. Wasn't it last week when Kinnear said two loan signings were practically done and dusted? I lose track of the bullshit during the transfer window there's that much of it. Gladly have managed to resist the urge to tune into SSN today as well, as I fully expected things to turn out as they have done. Been great fun on here though! This place is going to be mental tonight. Not a great window by any stretch but we've lost 2 players who had no intention of playing for us again and brought 3 players in who do want to be here. No doubt if Ashley had sanctioned a huge bid for Johnson and got him, he'd have been criticised for 'panic-buying' and throwing away the cash recklessly. Not bad but not great. I'd have liked a very good CM with the £8m spare but there you go. The problem with buying lots of players when there's an injury crisis is that you're left with them when everyone's fit. -

So 2 players who didn't want to be here have been sold. Nolan, Taylor and Lovenkrands have been brought in. We also had a big bid in for Johnson but City rejected it. We sniffed around Veloso but didn't actually make a bid. Is that about the gist of our dealings? -
Welcome to the club chap and the very best of luck. Hope the lad doesn't mind rolling his sleeves up and grafting.
