  1. It does work if you have him playing on the shoulder of Carroll, his pace over distance isn't terriffic, but his acceleration over short distances is great. It works because if a team tries to go deep you can fire it in high to carroll to try and head them in, or if they try play a high offside, teams here simply aren't that well organized, so there will be chances. the big man flicking it on for the smaller quick man is one of charles hughes faves. and its crap. I don't care if it works. problem is that it doesn't. Shearer and Bellamy would disagree. get your vids out and watch how many times shearers flick ons led to goals for bellamy. shearers hold up play certainly. his strength in the air to wear down opponents yes, but winning headers to set bellamy away....go and check. edit...i'd also like to point out that shearers heading ability from open play (goals) wasn't all that good. he got loadfs through his movement on set pieces but from open play was nowhere near what you'd expect.

    RIP sale thread.

and paul peschisolido is the charity ?
  5. Because he can create goals ? did at city a few years ago. seen none of it here unfortunatly. The pen at Reading, laid it off for Taylor to cross for Ameobis 2nd at Reading. Put a pinpoint corner onto Ameobis head that the keeper saved against reading. Laid off a backheel for Nolan? to strike against Reading. Was largely single handedly the reason we dominated the 2nd half against Reading. Fair enough thats a lot of Reading, but its the only game ive seen where he came inside much atall. Even though he was played on the wing once again. Since the injurys hes been dodgy but hes not playing in the right place. The best part of his game is knocking it about & sliding balls through to the fowards. putting it like that we'd have to have geremi as our first choice playmaker. Geremis not created anything in a long time. The last goal i remember him setting up was when he looped over a class pass to Martins who squared it across for Owen. Cant remember the game, Wigan i think. I wanted him in the team early part of last season, towards the end he looked woeful. differing opinions of geremi as over the last couple of seasons i remember him putting loads of perfectly weighted balls in behind the defence for our forwards to run on to (principally martins to not have a clue how to read it) which were very goo technically and tactically and not his fault our forwards had the reading ability of a 2yr old. who didn't look awful towards the end of last season?

  7. If he was played in his best position he'd be twice the threat going forward Butt is, he's a waste of time on the left, only gets put there because he's faster and stronger than any of the other midfield cloggers, which is a disgrace. he should be twice the threat as they play differing roles. butt the holding midfielder and barton the box to boxer, scoring and creating. apart from a spell of 4 or 5 games the season before relegation barton has been as poor as butt, nolan and geremi.

make some waves why like ? is he going to surf here ?
  10. and can someone explain why you'd keep joey barton on if you need a goal ?
  11. it's not an either/or but wether he plays both. i don't think he will. You don't? 2-1 down today, he brings off Barton and leaves Butt on. Whose more likely to get a goal, or create on, out of those two? Add in the fact that it's Butt's first start this season. Honestly reckon the likes of Butt, Nolan, Smith and Harper have a hand in picking the team. Smith will partner Butt in CM at the weekend, nailed on. who was playing better on the night ? do you know ? tbf barton has been as poor as butt in his time here. No, obviously. But one is a 34 year old "holding midfielder" who had about 20 minutes of football under his belt all season. The other is someone who actually possesses some ability in terms of making something happen in attack, even if he has looked disinterested at times. If you need a goal then I know which one I'm leaving on the pitch. at times ? understatement of the year contender.
  12. Smith and Guthrie central and Barton behind the front man is how this midfield three should be, but it's so impossibly obvious Hughton can't see it. Might as well make it all too difficult for no reason. He's making it difficult because we have no wingers and he has to compensate for this. The fact is he just doesn't want to drop Nolan and now he won't be able to bring himself to drop Butt. The likes of Lua Lua could easily be put out on that wing and his pace and unpredictability would be a breath of fresh air and would at the very least give us another gear out there. I really like Hughton but he is bottling it. Huge shame. whenever lua lua has came on for the first team he's looked lost with lots of running going nowhere. i'd probably rather have geremi in away games. Very good point about Geremi. Can you believe that as bad as our midfield is he doesn't even get a look in. How can you justify playing Butt or Nolan ahead of him? Geremi? OUR Geremi? The Geremi whose last start I can remember - at Hull - was worse than anything Butt or Nolan have produced? i've seen barton and guthrie put in some invisible displays aswell. it's the average that counts not lows.
  13. he's got a better delivery than just about everyone on the playing staff and leags that'll get him about the pitch if not quickly.

  15. Yeah I chanted it from within the womb. Then listen to the voice of experience The voice of experience is the reason Butt is out there right now. Do anything but listen to the voice of experience. Experience is a word I have come to despise because of this team of ours. Butt, Nolan, etc. Yeah they'll do a job with all that experience won't they. Nonsense. bartons experienced aswell and been largely shite in his time here. he seems to be getting a very easy ride of things here.

  18. Maybe not, but our chances of winning are significantly reduced because Butt isn't the creative force either Guthrie or Barton are and he's more prone to rash challenges than either of those two (yes, even Joey). guthrie and barton are a creative force ?

  20. if jonas is fit........ harper simpson colo taylor enrique guthrie b.b.b.smith barton jonas lovenkrands carroll. if jonas is out then geremi on the right and guthrie on the left.
  21. everyone else did apparently as according to the radio commentry butt probably wasn't the worst of our midfield.
  22. butt wont start on saturday unless someone gets injured.
  23. That's the most infuriating thing, it was an unncessesary loss. Yep. Thats whats so annoying for me. Barton seemed to be running the show and was taken off. Hughton didnt seem to make a good decision all night. Maybe starting Carroll, but thats about it. were you listening to radio newcastle, real fm or newcastle world ? barton seemed poor on radio newcastle.
  24. for all the whinging at hughton. i never saw the game, listened on radio newcastle and it sounded like any of the midfield could've been subbed (in fact by the sound of it geremi was our best midfielder tonight). who knows, maybe butt wasn't the worst of our midfiled tonight ? i'll bet he doen't start on saturday though.
