wasn't exactly a one on one as gerrard played between their midfield and attack....hate to say it but a masterclass in MOVEMENT from gerrard today Wasn't actually a one on one as Butt didn't get near him all afternoon. neither'd guthrie,coloccini,taylor,n'zogbia,geremi,gutierrez..........why make it butt only ? Because I f***ing hate him And he was exactly the same at Wigan on Friday. I'm a tad more objective. i thought guthrie was woeful on and off the ball aswell, had lots of chances to break forward but held back forcing either butt forward or isolating the forwards. duff was more dynamic than n'zogbia, enrique has no confidence, owen was anonymous, given could have held two of them saves.....i could go on I'd agree with all of that, but Butt is a week in week out problem now. He had to go some to be worse than he was on Friday at Wigan, but he managed to achieve it. He is only ever a good defensive midfielder when we're playing well, when we need him to be holding the midfield together when under pressure he's one of the first to disappear out of the game. The only time you then notice him is when he's repeatedly giving the ball back to the opposition playing simple 5 yard passes. maybe he'd be a better defensive midfielder if he was allowed to do just that as opposed to doing guthries (gooad games against pompey and spurs aside) work trying to get a little bit further forward ?

Everything went through Gerrard today and Butt seemed the most likely to try to snuff him out. The only reason it wasn't a direct one-on-one battle was the fact Butt wasn't mobile enough to even make it a battle in the first place. That's how I saw it anyway. they played a 4 man midfield, babel and benayoun mainly wide and lucas and mascheano in the middle....why should butt mark gerrard ? shouldn't that be a job for coloccini or taylor to stepo up and do

agree with the paragraph.....however the final sentence will bugger up my accumulator. Your accumulator is far more important than Fulham. I hope they put up a good performance before losing by a single goal in a tight match. cheers

whats wrong with targeting premiership players ? -
a good manager creates the conditions so it looks like a monkey could do it and...... a) our best left winger is playing on the right and duff was very close to setting up an opening goal for us with a ball n'zogbia wouldn't have seen/couldn't have played and b) we've seen what happens when you just play "a defender" there ie carr and taylor just in order to have a defender there. you say potato i say tomato, or something by the way i fundamentally disagree about jonas being our best left winger, i can't remember seeing him put a cross in tbh & he doesn't head for the byline half as much as zog...are they not 2 pretty big asks for wide men? i'm not slating the guy by any means, like them both but i honestly don't know how you can say he's our best LW whats this f***ing mania with crosses. it's not as if we have sir les back is it. choose the right ball at the right time be it a cross or cut back (re martins second against villa). i'll say he's better cos he does more with the ball and more off the ball and loads more defensivly. i honestly think the whole thing with n'zogbia is that he is more exciting. ie he'll get the ball and run at people (even when it is the wrong decision) and it gets people excited when he gets past one or two before losing out as he'd held on to the ball too long. no doubt if n'zogbia had played the ball through for owen that duff did yesterday it would be a sign of his brilliance and had he missed the chance duff did "at least he got there and was in the right place" jonas never crosses, ever, but he runs with the ball and makes things happen - albeit not that often directly as his assist stats show zog crosses more and tries to get the byline more often, personally i like his pinged low cutback crosses when he gets there and cuts inside the man forcing him to either give a pen or let him go, zogs stats also show he doesn't directly assist so often either i mean why are we arguing about it? they're our best two wide men 'cause they make things happen for different reasons, like the owen/martins debate really and yeah zog is exciting, nothing wrong with that is there? lots of stats in there. did you know if you completly miss hit a pass that ends up being an assist it ends up in the assists column. also if you do all the hard work, win the ball in a 20-80 challenge, fight off two other players, take it past another two then play a 40yd diagonal ball through three defenders, to get the ball to player A who lays it off simply to player B to score it doesn't count as an assist. nowt wrong with being exciting....if there is an end product.

If Xisco's dad was manager I'm sure he'd have had more chances. possibly wrong but i'm sure gullit gave dalglish more games kenny did.

the ref doesn't have to bring the play back to the original incident. bassong was fouling hiom all the way to the edge of the box. the ref could have took it to almost any point.

late 20's aint he ? -
nah. read back in this thread

to be fair heskey was pulled back constantly for about 20yds so the ref could have pulled it up at any point. at no point after entering the box did bassong do anything likely to stop heskey proceding. Exactly, it was the wrong decision. Play should have been brought back to the original impedance. Whether it was a red or not is another matter but as I remember it he was the last defender so it was in all probability a red card. I'd have to see it again though. there was defo a pull just outside the box aswell. the ref coyuld have done it then had he wanted. the ref can pull it back to whichever foul he sees fit.whichever one he thinks will give most advantage to the team fouled against.

nailed, amazing that eh? the only two attacking players we have with any pace creating goals and that... thats not what i've seen recently. what you saw is irrelevant, because Damien Duff is f***ing s*** and Charles N'Zogbia is better in every aspect than him. and gutierrez takes both
