you're quite wrong. I know they weren't perfect, but I think people like you, ought to understand how much better the club was in comparison to when they came, and I don't think you appreciated the years they ran the club, even when people tried to tell you. Its only a few years since cretins booed the team for finishing 5th in the league. And many, many people scorned at qualifying for europe via the intertoto. Thats the sort of raised expectations that have been taken for granted, and is something you should think about, and is also their legacy or part of it. You said yesterday that I was patronising. How else can I explain it ?? What I do take issue with though, is people who supported the club, or say they did, that don't appreciate how much better the club is, and I'm sorry but the only conclusion I can come to, is that they are lying when they claim this. Not one person I know, that actually is a long term supporter, denies that the club isn't miles better than they were when the Halls and Shepherd took over. yes much better than when they came but when they left they were going backwards at an alarming rate and had been for some time.................why can't you see this ?

not so sure about that. i doubt even a keegan team with those 4 first teamers out would have got more on saturday. I'm talking in general since he returned. The players or a good chunk of them seemed to respond better to man management more than coaching details which in the wide scheme of things is all the same anyway, training rarely varies from one club to another at the majority of them. i see. i always thought he was a better coach than given credit for and it wouldn't have took much to get better out of a decent,if small squad that allardyce left

the football was awful due to shearers and asprillas long term injuries. those two infront of hamman, solano and thomasson would have quite good to watch. Was also due to the way Dalglish set us out to play. i don't agree. i doubt with solano,an attacking minded tomasson, hamman and gary speed on the left with shearer and asprilla up front we'd have been set up too defensivly.. obviously the set up had to be different with rush and ketsbaia/tomasson up front.

who sold gary speed ?

well, after all the scaremongering you've done about us becoming another Leeds through overspending etc it will be interesting [or not in my case anyway] to see you and those who have made links etc to your site, explain how we are heading the way of Leeds because of underinvestment in the team I thought they taught grammar in the 60s ?? I need help with your question/statement. Do you think we are looking bad cos we ran out of money ? Are you trying to say we looked really good under Shepherd cos he spent £114m more thn he took in, in just 11 years. Shepherd was in control up June 2007 I'm just trying to clarify I didn't realise this was under examination conditions. Your own piece is a master of literacy. Go on, quit sidestepping and answer his questions. You know you want to. I've answered them at least a couple of years ago. macbeth quite simply doesn't understand that football success isn't gained by putting balance sheets before speculation on quality players. The reality check has been posted on numerous occasions. I really can't be bothered with this rubbish. Ashley's preference for balance sheets is going to relegate us. This is why Keegan left. Are you so blind you can't see this ? Care to comment on the rather strange happening that people like him have been insisting for 10 years we were going bankrupt, and more recently "doing a Leeds", when the only thing that is now propelling us in the direction of Leeds is the prudent board, presiding over lack of expenditure on the first team squad, that is "doing a Leeds". I did ask mick this question, but true to form, he avoided it. I'm not interested in macbeth mate, or anything he says. Sorry like. and NE5 doesn't understand that you just can't go on spending money you don't have indefinitly and hope to pay it back "when" you are successful. so you're happy that we have progressed from Shepherds legacy and on course to match those Champions League qualifications then ? You should make that comment towards the many people who encouraged and urged the old board to splash the cash every time the team lost a game, then for some reason, agreed with Ashley that not splashing cash was the way forward. Personality driven and confused agendas ? Surely not. My reply is that I am one of the few people around who defended the club for not spening money they didn't have after signing Woodgate in 2003 and make the club over reliant on qualifying for the Champions League, which is the mistake that Leeds made. Unlike numerous people again, who move the goalposts when they feel like it. Somehow, I know that these points will be beneath you to comprehend and debate in a mature fashion. You should also send a memo to Alex Ferguson and tell him how he's been getting it wrong all these years, and he shouldn't have recommended to his board that they buy Wayne Rooney. There are good points of view here in this thread, based on the idea of actually attempting to match how history proves it is done. Its a real shame - for you - that the events of the last 2 weeks still haven't shown you how your head is in the sand. You must also - like macbeth and mick - prefer us to have gone down rather than buy the badly needed, at the time, Martins and Owen. You might not have to wait too long to see how wrong you are, witness Ashley and his mates treading the path that you insisted they follow instead, assuming they stick around that is. lets take that bit by bit. CHAMPS LGE...... like souness, roeder and allardyce would have got us to ? OLD BOARD SPLASH THE CASH BACK THEN ? if you mean after we mande the champs lge qualifying (belgrade). d'you think it would have made more sense strengthening then from a position of strength with robson or playing catch up with souness (probably the biggest mistake this club has made since coming back up. oh and didn't fred say woodgate was bought with the previous seasons tele money ? ALEX FERGUSON...... i'd tell him he was wrong if he wanted to spend like that at a club that made minimal,if any operating profits and whose debts were mounting.(you see the secret is they can finance their debts easier because of operating profits). it's normally about now you bring up the likes of boro and their debt....well here's a secret, their debt is guaranteed by steve gibson and he has also ploughed into that club a lot of his own cash....quite the reverse of our previous chairman. edit. re your idea about not spending too much cos we could do a leeds. how come that board did spend like that but when it was too late and we had no chance of champs lge revenue. ? which way do you want it as you seem to want it both.

Oh and One bit you didn't quote that I found interesting: "A lot has happened over the last couple of weeks, we are genuine people, and we want to develop this Club in a sustainable manner. Nothing rash is going to happen, we are not going to do crazy stuff! We will work with Garry and Mark, they call the shots and we are here to support to help build a sustainable Club" A far cry from buying every top player available no matter what the cost. after whats gone on at NUFC over the past few weeks i'm very surprised that so many people are taking verbatim what is being said here.

Under what obligation does he have to ? Answer: none whatsover. ashley/the club released a statement with the word "fact" in about 10 times which basically called keegan a liar. ashley/the club must be very confident in their argument to issue such a powerfully worded statement. "Mr Principle" keegan hasnt yet answered any of the claims. i wonder why.... Unfortunately for Ashley and co, their "statement" didn't actually go against what Keegan said with regards to players being bought behind his back. They stopped short of saying anything like that, therefore I'd imagine Keegan's argument is probably correct. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, on appointment on January 16, 2008, agreed to report to a Director of Football and to the Board. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan worked within that structure from January 16 until his resignation. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan, as manager, had specific duties in that he was responsible for the training, coaching, selection and motivation of the team. It is a fact that Kevin Keegan was allowed to manage his specific duties without any interference from any board member. ie. keegan had nothing to do with transfers, yet he claims he did. that doesn't actually make it that clear. "report to" could mean any number of things but i thibk the club must feel they are on pretty solid ground to attck like that. The statement is an obvious attempt at saving face, considering Dennis Wise and Mike Ashley both claimed Keegan had final say on all transfers. Here are Wise's qoutes: "I'm here to help Kevin, bringing young players through and also recommend certain players to him. He'll say yes and no, he has the final word, no-one else. Everything that happens will be run past him." and keegan said that aswell when he knew he didn't.

oh f***. the chance of a black hole is now greater with this. if this line of thinking merges with the old board/new board stuff i fear the whole internet will collapse in on itself to a point that doesn't exist in space but with a mass great enough to punch a whole through to dimensions where the most bizzarre is real (think mackems in milan).

results do not prove that a 4th choice centre half was the right move. if so we should have been happy with dabizas/o'brien/titus as centre halves cos we finished 3rd with them

It would be like KD is just stalking KK, third time he would have followed in his footsteps. could be argued on 1 of them he out done keegan aswell

lots more spurs booing. both at haf time and full time but no condemnation. strange that.

yep, defensive negative football, sideways passing like in the old Dalglish days at NUFC.....we played some of the most boring negative football I`ve witnessed when that muppet was in charge (when he brought in his own players) Sigh..... he completely destroyed that team when all that was needed was 2 decent centre halves :'( If only Sir Bobby hadn`t turned us down that time for his loyalty to Barca how things might have turned out different Aye, I remember when KD took over from KK - actually thought he would be the perfect man for the job - we were sitting there/thereabouts top of the Premiership (I think), and after KK losing it to Fergie at the end of the previous season, we now had a manager who had 'been there - done it' with Liverpool and Blackburn, and someone who wouldn't be phased by Fergies mindgames. But, it just didn't work out! His 'Dads Army' signings (Pearce, Barnes, Rush) didn't help much either! do you ever wonder why he brought them in ? (and pearce and barnes owe us nothing from there time here)

eeer.......not quite. I was saying how the club was slipping towards it, due to lack of investment in quality players and seemed to lack the understanding of how to succeed in football. Several things caused these comments, which as you appear to be so informed on what I've posted, I'm sure you will know what they are. Buying nobody in the January window despite our dangerous position was a situation only saved by the optimism and motivation fuelled by the appointment of Keegan. 8 months on, and we are nearer than ever. I'm going to be honest here, while we disagreed before, I didn't think you were so gullible as others. You truly have your head in the sand. We need to get a manager in, yes. But who do you think is going to come in and how many years do you think the club can go on like this ie setting their sights so low, with no investment in the team, and hope to get back up the top end of the table. This is a serious question, I'm wondering if you can really understand this or not ? If you believe that Ashleys youth policy will pay ultimate dividends, you are living in cloud cuckoo land. Even our top players we have will not want to stay at a club like this, and from there you set the ball rolling, in the wrong direction. The truth of the matter is, I never tell anybody how to spend their money. We have invested big money in players before Ashley came and a lot of it was wasted on sub-standard players. We need major investment in the team I agree, and would love to see it happen. I would say around £100million needs to be spent in fees and wages just to get us in a position to challenge for Europe. The question is where does this come from? Where would you suggest? As for Ashley's youth policy I'm quite sceptical of it as it happens. This latest signing Gonzalez looks a bit slow to me, but I need to see him over 90 mins. It could be Keegan was right when he said he wasn't good enough, and if that's the case it puts a big question mark over the scouting system I've generally been in favour of. bit like saying that djemba djemba puts abig question mark of fergusons player spotting abilities.

which clubs of this size have been taken over by the fans ?

Fully agreed. The Chelsea comments caused me alarm as well. We'll never know what happened exactly and to be honest I don't think I want to know now. i need closure

I'm baffled at the appointment and it doesn't become any clearer when trying to work it out. By that I mean the decision process and who actually decided to go for him and why. maybe (i should consider changing my name to "maybe")someone saw that keegan was actually a much better coach and tactician than he was given credit for. if only they could get him to agree to this new fangled structure they have in mind ?

mackems.gif One of my best analogies man. then again we are talking about adults who hopefully have a sense of professional pride and kinship to their fellow players. i'd like to think tomorrow that hughton will be locked out the dressing room after announcing the team. given, butt and taylor should speak about pride and fellowship as the senior players. "sod the press, the fans, the shirt.....this is about us"
