It was former industrial land. Quite a chunk of it was or still is owned by Network rail, and they are happy to sit on valuable land that they don’t use and cry poverty. On top of that a lot of the land was industrial. For a long time if you wanted to build something it was cheaper to buy land outside of towns and cities. It’s why the country has so many business/retail parks, and in a lot of cases, out of town stadiums. Much of that land is still needed by rail engineers and to sell strips on either side would raise far less than selling larger chunks in the future. Network rail has sold off loads, sometimes rumour has it, not even at the best price if you get my draft, to developers.

Saying that I have 1 year left on my deal, had hoped this season finishing was the end and may well stop then regardless as I've became increasingly bored with top level moneyball and its rare that I'm genuinely excited by what I watch. Recently ASM, last seasons Ajax and Munich this season, if this thing does happen I want us to be an exciting watch.

There was a plan, but not by the club, to rotate through 90degrees which would allow expansion to 70,000. Not sure how viable that would be. Also the area where the arena is will soon be vacated but not sure if there are any existing plans for that and to throw a rabbit in there......Im told but guess what, not sure, that the Rueben bros own Gosforth Park. There's always castle leazes to try for again.
