It's OK, they've finished laying their new playing surface. Should ensure a guaranteed 100% home record. http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5551/onpaper.jpg

This is the trap some teams fall into. Didn't Wolves beat something like 4 of the top 5 last year or something and still only escaped the drop on the last day? Points from big clubs arent any more valuable than those from smaller clubs. In fact, they're often less so, because you're not going to be vying for position with Chelsea at the end of the year. 3 points against Norwich is three times better than a point against Liverpool, even if it doesn't feel that way. They may be shrugging their shoulders and saying we've not played anyone any good, but you've got to get those points on board so that it doesn't matter as much if you only get 1 or 0 points from a big club and any you do get are a nice bonus that gives you that nudge above your rivals.

So how come they think the players are great and only playing badly because Bruce is an idiot? How come they trust that the players he's brought are great on paper if they think he's an idiot?

O'Neill would want his own players in, not be tasked with clearing up Bruce's mess with this shower. And if they give him that much money on top of what they spent, they could end uo in real shit if it doesn't work out.

A thread entitled "dirty green mags" from the 1st of July, presented for your amusement: http://www.readytogo.net/smb/showthread.php?t=605185 The bits where they're worrying if they'll be able to keep to their humble roots with all the success and glory hunters Mag At Work makes his first appearance on page 3.

Will be interesting if Bruce goes and they get someone else in. A lot of them seem convinced, still, that on paper their team is great and therefore all its failings must be down to Bruce. If another manager comes in and their goodies from "shopping at Harrods" still don't look like great players then he might find himself under pressure very quickly.
  13. Spurs have spent an absolute shit-ton of money getting to where they are in terms of their recent good spell, so I'm not sure there's much of a comparison to be made. Whether you look at it over the last 5 years or the last 8 years they're fourth in the league of big spenders in terms of net outlay, and if it hadn't been for Liverpool's recent spending spree I'd imagine they'd be third, only behind Man City and Chelsea in the spunking stakes. There seems to be an impression that they've become top four contenders through frugal dealing in the transfer market and a club like us could learn something from them, when really I don't see how we can learn anything about how to run an Ashley model club from Spurs.
  14. Sounds more like the Wigan model of "Come, play in the premier league, play at Old Trafford, share a pitch with superstars like Dzeko and Bale, get your face on telly and know that if any decent clubs spot you you can be straight out the door."
  15. The other down side is things happen like you go into a transfer window needing a striker, and instead sell your best striker. And then if the players in the next transfer window that suit critera of things like "Injury worry, twat, fallen out with club, contract wasn't checked properly, agent is a friend of a friend" don't happen to be strikers, but goalkeepers and midfielders, then you simply don't get a striker.
  16. I understand the attitude of "I don't care as long as we're getting results", but it'll still be there during home defeats...
  17. Don't have to look at it thanks to sitting in the East Stand, so the animated hordings piss me off more.

SUNDERLAND chairman Niall Quinn is a shock contender to take over as Manchester City’s new chief executive. It’s believed that City, searching for a successor to Garry Cook who resigned over an alleged unsavoury email, are aware of uncertainty over their former striker’s future at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland club officials had to move swiftly two weeks ago in the aftermath of a home defeat against Chelsea to deny Wearside rumours Quinn had resigned. Sunday Express Sport has reported that relations between Quinn and American owner Ellis Short have become strained over the past months with Short bringing in two of his own men from the USA to enable a more hands-on approach from the other side of the Atlantic. Friends say that Quinn has become frustrated believing he has become the whipping boy for any Sunderland problems. City, who have started a worldwide search for the right man to head the off-the-field Etihad Stadium operations, are considering Quinn’s attributes in the knowledge that he remains a favourite with the club’s older fans. Quinn also has an ally in City’s head of football operations, Brian Marwood. The pair have remained friends after being team-mates at Arsenal in the 1980s. http://www.express.co.uk/football/view/273492/Niall-Quinn-in-the-frame-to-be-Etihad-chief

Oh yeah, itk - the old guy who sits next to me says "According to my sources, that Sunderland striker, he was playing around with a lass in Sunderland and his missus said either you leave England or we split up. And that's why he left."

It can never be that we have an alright player, or manager, or fans, or anything, can it? There's always a qualifier, there's always an excuse...
  21. Alright. Few good chants from The Corner. Good reception for Arfa and for Ba going off.
  22. My dad couldn't make it cos he's just back from holiday so I was sitting next to the auld fella I grew up next door to. Seemed to really enjoy it
  23. Weird that us and Blackburn and Arsenal and Bolton are playing today as well. Nice to see Man U and Aldershot's balls were kept in the freezer beforehand.
