So the murder of Khashoggi (and especially the fact it was caught on tape) was the biggest PR disaster MBS has had (and there's been a lot). And yet a year later there's thousands of westerners, who previously thought of the Saudis as the hand-chopping medieval cunts behind 9/11 (if they thought of them at all) on Twitter with Saudi flags in their username spreading Saudi state propaganda, claiming the journalist who was murdered was actually a spy and a terrorist and that doing direct deals with the crown prince isn't any morally different to buying a phone made in China. So it's not really hard to see why they reckon its worth spending hundreds of millions of state money for Gareth Bale to kick a football around on the other side of the globe really, is it.

For all Saudi Arabia demonstrates some of the worst excesses of capitalism, they're coming to buy us because the state has basically seized the means of production (and also doles out that cash to its citizens, more than half of which receive some form of welfare from the state).
