Cacapa looked absolute class until that game. He was unlucky in that he never got to play once KK had realised what a disgusting waste of oxygen Smith and Duff were/are, not to mention the reintroduction of Viduka and Martins, players worthy of being called footballers. Faye and Taylor got to play in a full side while Cacapa was usually playing in a team of 9 men - resulting in a constant barrage.

As opposed to David Pleat, Andy Townsend, Robbie Earle and Sam Allardyce? Earle and Townsend are okay tbh. But Clive fucking Tyldseley? He's simply a prick and I've never met the man. Pleat is as senile as Motson but starts from a lower position. Who the fuck is Martines? Chimbomba? These 2 get the biggest games and they are by far the most annoying duo. Alan Green's tiresome when he's waffling on about Liverpool but purely as a commentator, he's pretty good. I really enjoyed it the other night when they had him over the Turkey - Germany game, him and the other Irish bloke who was on are both good (anyone know his name?).

I honestly can't think what you see in Viduka. I know we all see our own players in a more favourable light, but when I see Viduka, I just see one of the most immobile strikers I've ever seen. on the ball he can be excellent, good vision, great brain, fantastic skill. he's also the best finisher at the club and the only player with the strength to hold the ball upfield (dont even mention Smith). but yeah, off the ball his mobility is crap. hopefully we looking for someone out there as good as Viduka on the ball but with the improved mobility we need. sadly you have to look at expensive players like Berbatov for the whole package. But then that lot got him for, what, ten million? A relative snip. Hopefully this is what Wise et al are aiming at, top players who aren't very well known. If there's any truth in rumour, that does seem to be the sort of thing we're looking at, which is good. Actually signing them's a different matter so far like.

To be fair he's the only attacking player that regularly turns up for England. Apart from that goal against Sweden I think he's been dross for England personally but there you go. Don't rate him at all. Loads of stupid tricks and very little to show for it.

I think it is essential personally. Martins is the only one who you can hang your hopes on getting more than 20 games out of, Shola's likely away (and crap) and Smith is the player least likely to score in the entire squad. I know "give him time" and all that but I'm with Heneage, I don't think Carroll's good enough or ever will be.

Who are the six? Owen, Martins, Viduka, Shola, Carroll, Smith? Only three of those are worthy of the title 'striker' though, and Vids will miss the start of the season, potentially a month or two more as well.

Says a lot for our paucity of left wingers that Joe Cole would get in.
